Never shot Gecco ammo in any caliber.  Are they GTG for range ammo (i.e., will go bang and aren’t known to kaboom guns)?  Clean shooting or dirty?

I’m specifically interested in the 124gr TMJ.

Thanks!

GECO everything is good in my opinion.

I've only tried the 115gr FMJ and TMJ and they were very good, clean, and very accurate. Also on the HOT side. Inside of the spent brass looked shinny and clean too.

Agreed, at least IME with 9mm 124fmj.

Thanks for the quick responses!  Maybe I’ll grab some before November hits, just in case.

It's the most accurate 45acp ammo I've tried in my HK45.  The 9mm is clean accurate and hot.

Good stuff.

I’ve only shot their 9mm and 5.56. Was clean and consistent.

No, I had terrible experience with Geco ammo. It leaves behind this yellow sandy crap all over my guns in the action (blows backwards and gets everywhere). Here are some photos of the mess it left behind on my mp5k clone. How do I know that it's the ammo? Because it's on all of my 9mm guns and this is the only ammo that I shot. It's taking me hours to clean this mess up. I am actually going to give this ammo away to my brother for free throw it in the garbage -- my time is worth a lot more than this cruddy ammo.

Interesting.  The Geco site says it's produced in Switzerland, Germany, Sweden, and Hungary, not the USA.  I don't know what you got there; I'd stick with European made.

I'm going to try and find out where I got this ammo from and if it's legit Geco ammo. I want a full refund. I bought this a while ago before I used up the last of my older ammo.

EDIT: I bought it from Ammo Shop Online

Never seen that stuff before.

The Geco 230gr. ACP ball in the red and black boxes is the most accurate FMJ I've ever shot in my HK 45, and it was clean burning.

The various 115gr, and 124gr. Geco 9mm fmj in their normal red and black packaging has been very good in all my pistols save one, My IWI Jericho that has polygonal rifling does not shoot it accurately at all, I suspect because the stuff I had had copper plated steel jackets, as I said it works in every other one of my pistols, and is very clean.

That USA Geco ammo is looking pretty sketchy at this point.

The only thing I've seen that leaves similar residue in guns is the Ammo Incorporated "stelTH" subsonic .....the dirtiest, gassiest 9mm ammo I've ever shot .......

I have 2k rounds of the stuff in the ammo fort

In fairness I've shot probably 500 of what I initially bought and didn't notice any ill-effects.

That "yellow sandy crap" looks like partially burned powder. Smokeless powder is naturally that color; we think of it as grey because it has a graphite coating to help with metering, but once the graphite burns off (or possibly was never there in sketchy ammo), it's that yellowish color.
Possibly related: GECO ammo is not and was never made in the U.S., and the name in all of the company's literature is written in all capital letters ("GECO"), except when part of the stylized "G" logo. Nor does it come in crappy boxes with numbers that don't match anything in GECO's catalogue.

Norma has opened an operation in Savannah GA I believe. They have a website under Norma and also Ammo Shop. I believe this USA Operation HQ is fairly new. I've bought a bunch of ammo from both, usually .223 but also 9mm.

As stated above the red boxes are GTG. They are made in Switzerland and Hungary.

I've bought some Geco 9mm 115FMJ also that came in the plain white boxes. This ammo is GTG for me but some lots had a recall a few months ago due to bullet setback I believe.

Back in 1985 - The Sig Armour recommended Geco ammo for all Sigs (P226 / P220 / P230).  The ammo back then gave this residue off.   Never had a problem with the ammo back then and never thought much about the residue - but that was a few years ago..

When I can find it... Whether Swiss, Hungarian, or Kraut... I buy it ALL... Because it's the best ball/stacking ammo I've ever found for plinking, or SHTF... It's accurate, clean as "F" and it's components make for perfect reloading brass case wise, etc... Especially in 9mm and .45ACP's... Then I find myself not wanting to shoot it because it's the best of the best for All the Aforementioned and just end up hording and stacking it. Of course, YMMV...

ETA:... I've only bought it from the Red/Black ammo boxes and have never seen it in the white/black boxes... It's Swiss, Hungarian, and German made ammo in (Red-N'-Black) Boxes is the best standard/ball/plinking/SHTF ammo I've shot to date. So I don't hesitate to buy all of that up. White N' Black boxes pic'd above no way... Sounds and looks like a knock-off or counterfeit  maybe?

My international ammunition expert (see the International Ammunition Association discussion on this subject at their general discussion forum) confirmed for me that this GECO 9mm is in fact loaded (i.e. not completely manufactured) at their Tampa, FL location. This is evidenced by the 'TMP' prefix in the lot number. They use cases made by the GECO plant in Hungary, as evidenced by the blocky font letters GECO in the headstamp.

Geco is good to go.
Its one of the most prominent Ammos for sport shooting in all of europe and is (together with Magtec) what i used while living over there.

I have no clue what that white box posted above is but i have never seen a Geco box like that. if in Question stick with the Red n Black boxes.
