Wilson 47D are golden. The only mags I use with my 1911s

/media/mediaFiles/sharedAlbum/hes_right_you_know-328.jpg
100% correct if you like using a magazine that crams 8 rounds into a tube/spring designed for 7. If you like replacing the springs every month to avoid malfunctions, then yep the 47D are golden. Pretty shady on Wilson's part that they still sell those things when even Bill Wilson won't recommend them.

Or you could understand it's not 1995 anymore and much, much superior mags now exist.

Just ordered an Ed Brown 8 rounder from brownells to try out. Price was right and had good reviews.

Always Wilson 47D 8rd. Until something else comes along and can unseat them, that is the Gold Standard.

Bill Wilson disagrees. So very wrong and uninformed. You're recommending one of the absolute worst 8rd mags on the market.

Is there a chart or something that gives an overview of the crazy amount of different mags? It seems like Wilson alone has 87 different variations.

Garbage mags.  Maybe if you rebuild them as 7s they work.

Tripps are the best or one of the other extended body 8rd mags.

I'm using Wilson ETMs, Mec Gar 7 rounders and Kimber Tac Mags with good luck in my RIA and Springfield.

Wilson ETM 8 rounders

Tripp Cobra 8 rounders

I also did the mag swap program Ed Brown Rand a few years back for a dozen 8 round mags and they are flawless

CMC Powermags (had good luck with the Powermag +'s as well)
Cheap 7rders that Springfield uses

Tripp Cobramags are universally hailed as the best. I have 2 inbound to try.

The only real problems I've ever had with 1911 reliability has been with 2 mags. One was a pair of experimental CProducts 1911 mags with crap springs new. The other was with 47D's and weak mag springs in like 5 mags that I bought new. Not terribly impressed with them. Put some spare CMC springs in them and they work now.

Maybe Wilson's other offerings are good, but the 47d's are a joke.

I understand the issue (dimensions wise) with the 8 round 47D.
I personally have not had any issues but I rotate out mags probably once a year.

Question for you guys..
I have some Kimber flush fit 8 round mags.  They seat fine with 8 rounds in them.   Should I be concerned with these?  I have not had any issues with them but they only run in one of my guns and only abut a year old.

8 round CobraMags by Tripp good to go?

These or Kimber's or Sig's are what I buy.  I bought a pile of GI mags (probably not real GI mags) from the Sportsman's guide like 20 years ago and none of them have failed me yet.

I had no problems with the 47d but I don’t happen to have them anymore. I have CMC and factory Colt.

I ordered a few different Wilson mags to try a 47d a 500 and a couple flush fit 7 and 8 rounders. Figure I'd try a few different ones out. I also have a couple colt stainless on the way.

I just grabbed a 1991 and for whatever reason only 1 colt mag came with.

Hearing the mixed reviews on the Wilson mags has me thinking maybe trying a few first was a good idea. I'll definitely keep a look out for others until I find the best to stack up. I'm not sure with ammo prices if I'll start to get into 1911s but I'm sure I'll get a couple more and like having multiple mags.

Once I finally find what is the best I'll probably just get a bunch of springs and followers as well.

They squeeze 8 rounds into a 7 round tube which results in ultra fast spring wear. Replace the springs often and they're fine, but there's no reason to even buy them now as there a much better mags available.

I ran Wilson 8 rounds ( and 10rnd)  in USPSA/IPSC and IDPA for years

dropped, stepped on, kicked in the dirt, etc, for years.

They work great

CMC power mags are GTG also.

Wilson ETM HD/+P

They're extended so if your 1911 doesn't have a mag well the magazine will stick out below the gun:

If I want a "budget" or "inexpensive" 1911 magazine ... Chip McCormick 8rd PowerMags would be my choice too.

(Or if my 1911 didn't have a mag well and I wanted a more "flush fit").
