Flat or Arched mainspring housing? Which do you prefer and why?

Flat. Arched sucks.
I shoot better with a flat MSH. However, I am a weirdo in that i like flat MSH 1911's but I like the OG beretta M9 vs the flat vertec style. |

I prefer flat. To my hand size, arched might look better, but flat shoots better.

I mostly have arched, and like them. I do have one with an in between style Ed Brown mainspring housing, and I like it a bit better than arched. Sort of a compromise, but one that seems to work for me.

Firmly imprinted that a flat mainspring housing was the way that the prophet JMB designed the 1911. |

Arched points more naturally for me.

Arched. All but one of mine are arched, and the one flat one is a WW1 clone.

I don’t have a problem with arched, but I prefer flat.

Depends on trigger length. Short trigger then arched mainspring housing. Long trigger then flat mainspring housing.

My Springfield Mil-Spec has a short trigger and arched mainspring housing; my Garrison has a long trigger and a flat mainspring housing. It's six in one, half dozen the other which one I prefer, but I agree the two parts go together in combination. |

Normally flat, but I want to find a nice arched MSH to swap onto my Colt "Classic."

Bought my first 1911 in 1978/79. 1917 made Colt US Army pistol.
Flat mainspring housing. Just never could get used to the arched mainspring housings after that. Replaced the arched mainspring housing on my Colt Combat Commander and Series 80 Government Model with flat mainspring housings as soon as I could. |

Makes absolutely no difference to me.

For my first 1911 I bought a Gold Cup, partly because I thought the flat msh looked sexy. After a while I discovered that it makes me hold low, and an arched msh fixes that, which is what it was designed to do. I still have some flat ones, but they are no longer on my pistols.

I strongly prefer flat MSHs, arched sucks. The only I I have is because it’s an A1 clone.

I started shooing the practical pistol spots beginning with bowling pins in around 1982 with a flat mainspring 1911 in .45..... when the shooting sports progressed to USPSA and draws from a holster, I found that the arched MSH which gave me a slightly higher flash front sight picture that was easier for me to acquire, and stayed with an arched housing until I switched to the Glock platform in 2005... Arched all the way. Feels better, points better and shoots better for me.
Not a hater of the flat MSH, but it’s just not for me. |
