Just curious if there is a specific brand/load that the US uses for 9mm sidearms. Specifically what was used with the M9. Thanks

I was assigned an M9 for 17 years, best I can recall it was WCC 9x19. I may have an old empty box somewhere... let me go look

We used IMI. I think it was 124 gr.

The official 9mm round used by the military was/is the M882. It used a 124gr FMJ at about 1200fps. It was made by several manufacturers like Winchester, Lake City, Federal, and IMI. It's in the process of being replaced with the M1152 115gr truncated cone (flat point) FMJ. I got a ten shot average of 1192fps with that load from my M9A1.

I've got some 96 dated Federal M882 (white box) in the safe. Good stuff.

My understanding is that while the M9 was still the primary sidearms, the standard cartridge for both practice and duty was 124 gr +P FMJ ball ammo, with manufacturing contracts issued to both Federal and Winchester.

Today I know we've now contracted Winchester for both ball and HP ammo, though I don't know off the top of my head what pressure those are for and what other companies have been contracted to produce them. But I'm assuming the Army has probably also contracted Federal to make at least the ball ammo.

Whatever they tell the Federal Arsenals to produce.
Often just a bullet weight and a speed are specified.

While the equipment to load the ammunition is often Government owned,
they now contract out running the equipment & plant to Commercial
Ammunition Loading companies.

The speed of the equipment is simply astounding.
Faster than ANY 'commercial' equipment can do.

It's not "hot" it's loaded to NATO standards.

Likely HOT compared to commercial ammunition.

The MIL has access to different bulk powders than even the commercial loaders use.

NATO 9mm is roughly +P on the SAAMI scale. It's not particularly hot compred to some of the SMG ammo used to be. Unless you have something old and fragile, NATO 9mm will not damage anything mde from the 1980's on.
