Looking at picking up one or the other. Have had both in the past and I enjoyed both. I have two G19.5s. One standard and one MOS with a Trijicon RMR.

So, which one do you prefer? Or I could always get both

The 17 is meh.  The 45 (and 19X) brings me joy.  But Get Both.

Used last years GSSF coupon on 45 MOS.

19 is my favorite but I’d take a 17 over the 45 which seems pointless to me.

When the G45 came out I thought to myself. Well that’s Fing retarded.

Few months later go by and all Georgia state officers get issued one. buddy comes by and I hold it and I immediately see the attraction.

I bought one at the beginning of this year and could easily see owning another.

I no longer have a G17.

I’m in this camp, I thought it was stupid along with the 19X. Now I own 2x 19X’s and a G45MOS and will be picking up a second G45 MOS the next time I see one for a normal price.

FWIW I was never fond of the 17 and I’ve owned a bunch of those too and never held onto one, only 19’s until recently.

I prefer the full-size grip and slide length of the 45. I carry an OZ9 compact with full-size grip and comp bringing to to 34 size.

Almost.  I carried a Roland Special with a X300 for a few years.  It's just a hair shorter.

I have multiple 17s and one 45. (In addition to multiple 19s and a 26)

I don't have any idea why the 45 exists other than if you want to wear a shorter holster because you are seated most of the time.

I will not be getting another.  Next purchase will (again) duplicate a 17 or 19.

I shot G17.3 for competition for a lot of years... picked up a G45.5 on the Blue Label deal last go around.. I really like the textured grip more than I thought I would....and as I age, I perceive that I can pick up the front sight a little better with the G45 (though I add Dawson Precision sights on all my new Glocks)... regards

I kept my 17's and sold my 45. The 45 felt stubby and it solved no problems for me. If I'm going to go stubby, I'll get a 19.

I like my 17, but I do plan on getting a 45. The 45 will look clean with an APLc Glock model and I'd already have a ton of mags for either or.

I and a few USPSA friends shot both quite a bit last year and we all came to the conclusion that the 45/19X has all the performance limitations of the 19 but in a package that carries and conceals like a 17.

So, if you want all the disadvantages of a fullsize and compact pistol in one gun, the 45 is made just for you.

Seeking a gun for going on a rig or a holster for a nightstand gun, the people wanting it for that purpose aren't buying it for carrying. Well in my case at least.

People buy pistols for purposes other than competition believe it or not.

I for example have a lot of meat between my legs which prevents me from comfortably carrying a long pistol/holster and a G19 length slide is about as long as I can comfortable get away with unless I hike my pants up my ass and abdomen which is also uncomfortable and looks like a total goober. The 19 doesn't allow me a full grip (although I can make it work), so the 45 is perfect for a "full size" carry for me with a TLR-7A in a Tenicor certum3.

I also find the 19 length slide guns to shoot a little flatter for me, I think it has to do with the slide running a little faster.

So for me the G45 is nothing but advantageous.

Whose the gun for? You or me? If it's for me, then the only person that it has to make sense for, is the buyer only. Fair enough?

45 because with a RMR, you don't need a longer sight radius.

I have been saying for years the 19 was the most balanced pistol and a perfect size....until I bought my 45....the 45 is damn perfect.  I have the 17.5, not bad, but when you pick up the 45 after shooting the 17.5, the 45 is just so much better, IMO

After shooting Glocks for going on 30 years now, my new ranking order:

45
19 (Tie)
26
43X
30S

The 45 has 17 capacity and fits 19 holsters.

I carry one for duty and have a shit ton of 19/23 holsters already.

What the poster above me said too...balance.

Balance is one of the most underrated qualities of a fighting handgun.

It really feels good in the hand.  The balance is there.  Much better than the 19 and 17 IMHO.  I carry the 19 for when I need a shorter less printable grip frame in the same set up.
I don't give a crab about light size.  Man up! I've carried a HK45 fullsize with X300 and a FNP Tact with X300 for a time as well.

I agree with the balance of the 45/19X, but it goes out the window when you add a giant X300U off the end of it that weighs as much, maybe more than what a 17 slide adds and hangs way out the front too. I run TLR-7A’s because it really cuts the weight down vs a full size double battery light and keeps that excellent balance.

Still balances better than 17 with the same light setup.  What works for me, works for me.  You are not me.
I'm not worried about weight either, came from carrying all steel guns.  Longer run time and more lumens is a win in MY book.  Ever contact shoot someone before?  I have and OOB sucks.  Standoff is great.
I'm glad a smaller light works for you.  I really am.

Damn...I just wasted post 3222 responding to this.

G45. I no longer have use for a 17. Get a 34 as well if you want a longer slide in the stable.

I thought for the longest time, that having a shorter slide on a full size grip, was a bad/stupid idea. Of course, after holding one, that changed. The 45 seems really balanced and like others have said, it fits G19 holsters. I also like the 43X, which I never thought I would, as it is a similar pistol in design.

My 17s are great range/truck guns but my G45 MOS is my EDC.  I love the balance and recoil recovery - it's a step up from the 17 for sure.

This is my opinion as well.

My 17 shoots smoother than my 19. The 45 I shot felt just like a 19.

I'll just keep buying 17's and 19's.

And conversely, I've grown to dislike my G5 G34. For whatever reason, I can feel the "chunk chunk" of the slide recoiling and then counter recoiling much more than any other pistol. 17 is perfect and the 19 is really good in this regard.

The G45 offers a unique shooting dynamic with the lower reciprocating mass of the shorter slide while maintaining more leverage from the longer grip.  The G45 is the smoothest shooting Glock I’ve owned, and I’ve had everything from a G34 on down to a G43.  I’ve been carrying a G45 for about 1.5 years now as a duty pistol and it’s a phenomenal gun and unless something more fancy comes out, it’s probably the only Glock model I’ll carry on duty from here on out.  I just like shooting it better than the G17, and the shorter barrel allows me to run a comp and still hold it in a G34 holster.

When people talk about the balance of the 45 it makes me chuckle. And how does a shorter barrel and slide have better recoil characteristics? Methinks people just bought what Glock was selling.
