I've been jonesing  to get myself a single action revolver and would like to ask, what would the acceptable gap be for a Super Blackhawk in 44 Mag? Is this a concern for SA guns?   Thanks in advance!

As a general rule .004" to .006" is considered ideal for revolver cylinder gap.

Some pistolsmiths and factories will go with 0.004" to 0.008" with 0.005" being about "perfect".

S&W however says that a gap of 0.012" is in spec for their guns.  They say that velocity loss with the wider gap is minimal and not an issue.

If you shoot mostly lead bullets a gap under 0.004" can start causing stiff cylinder rotation caused by build up of leading on the front of the cylinder and rear face of the barrel.

Doubt it'll be an issue for the SBH.

It's one of those buy with confidence guns. You REALLY gotta do something stupid to break one.
