Talk me in or out of one of these, please.
I can't afford a GI one as they are way to spendy. I am wanting to pick up a new, civilian model. Why? I think they would be a neat gun to have. I have a legit Army trade in M17 Sig and I thought a M45A1 might be a nice addition to my military sidearm collection. I also have a CMP 1911A1. Any I crazy to spend money on a gun that would get shot once or twice a year? |

You already talked your self into it. Just get it!
It’s an awesome gun! Mine has been reliable but I don’t have many rounds into it yet. I don’t know how munch longer Colt will be producing these, so I would definitely get it. Oh, and mine hasn’t been shot in two years and I don’t regret having it. |

I'd get a Colt CCU instead (and did, to be honest)...it doesn't say M45A1 on the side and I don't know if the M45A1s have the nickeled internals the issue guns did...but the CCU has basically all of the rest, plus a checkered frame and mainspring housing. Which makes it better, to me.
If you're set on getting something that may or may not be "collectable" in the future...by all means, M45A1 it is. If you plan on actually using the gun though...honestly, the CCU is better in nearly every way. |

They come in production waves. When stock is low prices jump way up. The last several black m45a1s I saw were selling high $3s some over $4k. I paid $2100 delivered for my black ccs. The first stainless that hit the market a couple weeks ago ended at $16xx.xx. People must have thought it was a fake or something. Now they are pulling well over $2k.

Huh, looks like Colt's checkering the M45A1s now too? In that case, the only reason to get a CCU over one might be price, if the CCU is cheaper...otherwise, other than the rear sights being night sights and the internals being nickeled, there's zero practical difference between them. If the M45A1s use a GI ignition system (no S80 firing pin safety), that might be another distinguishing feature...I don't know if they do that with the M45A1s or not?

Only the custom shop m45s get the checkering. Is there such a thing as a non-custom shop M45A1? Yes. Most are production line guns. USMC issue guns were production line guns. If one comes in the blue box = production line. Green pelican case = CCS gun. Some early CCS guns did not have checkering. |

If one comes in the blue box = production line. Green pelican case = CCS gun. Some early CCS guns did not have checkering. Er, define blue box. Lighter blue cardboard box? That's a CCS gun, too. Darker blue plastic case? That's a line gun. Looking online, the green case CCS guns are actually better than the ones that are done on the line and were actually issued...the actual issued ones didn't have checkered front straps, etc. Eh, I guess, as I've said, it depends on what you're after...if you want a near parity gun to what the USMC issued? The plain old line guns are a closer replica than the custom shop ones, in that case. If you want a gun to actually use? The custom shop gun would be a better bet just because of the checkering. Then again the guns the Marines issued used a GI style lockwork; no firing pin safety. I don't know if the custom shop guns are "S70"/GI-style, too. The line guns sold by Colt to their non-mil distirbutors, are S80/firing pin safety guns iirc. |

As far as I know and I may be wrong but I believe they all have s80 usmc and civilian. If I recall right s80 was required by the Corp for the m45a1 but my history may be a little rusty. |

It has a lot to like about it but I just can't stand that Roll mark.

If one of my friends asks me if they should buy a quality gun the answer is always yes.
Buy the gun, buy all the guns! |

The roll mark could definitely be better but that's not why I want it.

Maybe but probably not...you could send it back for a refinish if you need though. I mean, Colt would probably see that as normal wear and tear. Just as if you shot a bunch of rounds through it and then sent it back for a warranty repair for the recoil spring.

It could probably be IonBonded, but $$$...I'm pretty sure it's more expensive than cerakoting.
On the upside though, it's a pretty tough finish so it shouldn't really wear much. Evolution Armory in NH does Ionbond, and I'm sure if you called Colt they'd be happy to refinish it for you as well. |

I have the colt combat unit rail gun in 45acp, basically the exact same gun minus the color and non ambi safety but it’s been great. I’ve shot some USPSA and 3gun heavy with mine and it has been great. No malfunctions with Wilson mags and ball Ammo. I have yet to run any HP’s. It shoots soft for a 45, but the only problem is holsters. I have a safariland for Springfield operators with a light but it won’t fit my gun with any light on it. So I just run the gun without a light. Cascadia concealment makes holsters for them though but they’re just simple kydex.

View Quote Yeah that's the only bitch with them...no one really makes holsters. Safariland does, but they're expensive and OWB duty rigs, that's about it. JM Custom Kydex had a mold, and I was able to get an AIWB holster from them, but then their mold broke...and they have no interest in making another. I'd love to get both an OWB and IWB with a X300 molded, along with another AIWB set up slightly differently...oh well. |

Colt has been known to suddenly stop production or do them in waves. It's hard to say but the pistol is popular right now.
