I picked up this Colt Commander in a trade. 1970s vintage with a lightweight alloy frame. Has some holster wear on the nose of the slide and the thumb safety but looks good otherwise. Looking forward to shooting it.

That should make an excellent carry gun if it's reliable.

Is it the Colt Royal Blue? If so photos never do it justice.

Nice OP.

I had a satin nickel "Combat Commander" in the late '70s that never ran right. I'm sure you'll have better luck with yours.

The slide is definitely blued but the alloy frame is anodized black. I took these under different light, shows the color a little better.

One of my favorite pistols of all time.  Had several, still have a couple, send it to me and I'll watch it for you for a few years.

How long ago was it that new Colt Commanders sold for $225?

OP that is fantastic looking Colt there.

I am not sure if Colt ever made one, but I would like to see an alloy frame with a stainless slide.

I found the recoil on the .45 acp lightweight commanders less than with the steel framed .45 acp commanders.......go figure.

Back in 1984ish time frame, Colt released the Silver Stallion.  Officers mod SS slide on a alloy full commander frame.
Bit of an odd duck but mine functioned well.

Nice looking gun. About the only real short coming of these is the small GI profile sights, at least if you have “old eyes” ( I can still manage decent accuracy with the tiny GI profile sights, but it does take a bit of time to get them alighted “just right” for best accuracy- though I suspect my time is coming !)

The old school method of a staked in front sight limits replacement options if you go down that road retaining the staked front sight, or need to cut dovetails on a classic for modern sights.

Not a big fan of modifying a classic

I would shoot it some but would not modify it with that serial # or get a lot of holster wear on it.
