I was born in Birkenhead and I was poor , I was dressed from the local army and navy store and I can tell you its no fun going to school dressed as a Japanese admiral-UKjohn

That should make an excellent carry gun if it's reliable.

Very nice

Nice OP.
I had a satin nickel "Combat Commander" in the late '70s that never ran right. I'm sure you'll have better luck with yours. |

OP that is fantastic looking Colt there.
I am not sure if Colt ever made one, but I would like to see an alloy frame with a stainless slide. |

I found the recoil on the .45 acp lightweight commanders less than with the steel framed .45 acp commanders.......go figure.

View Quote Back in 1984ish time frame, Colt released the Silver Stallion. Officers mod SS slide on a alloy full commander frame. Bit of an odd duck but mine functioned well. |

That pistol looks very nice!

Nice looking gun. About the only real short coming of these is the small GI profile sights, at least if you have “old eyes” ( I can still manage decent accuracy with the tiny GI profile sights, but it does take a bit of time to get them alighted “just right” for best accuracy- though I suspect my time is coming !)
The old school method of a staked in front sight limits replacement options if you go down that road retaining the staked front sight, or need to cut dovetails on a classic for modern sights. Not a big fan of modifying a classic |
