Buddy says his colt is original but patent date and ser# doesn't seem correct.
The last patent date is 1913 and the serial # 60xx shows up as 1912. Could this
Be right?

Made the links hot for you.  There should be a different link available that will show the pics though.  You are on the right track though.

Unfortunately l know less about your original questing than l do fixing your links.

While the pics were a bit tough to see, it appears to have no US property mark on the frame - should be on left front dust cover. Without that mark nothing else really matters - an all original gun without the marking removed might be a 3-5 thou gun or more , with the mark missing try under 800.

It does have that marking but still think it is mismatched.

Make sure we are on the same sheet of music - I enlarged the picture as best I could and saw no evidence of a “United States property” mark on the LEFT side of the FRAME
This suggests it is refinished. Perhaps it is there but not showing in the pictures for me?

Finally made it out that the property mark is there but looks
Like a well executed refinish to me

Captain this gun definitely  looks touched up. I'm just wondering if it is real or fake. I know the slide doesn't  match the receiver. If they are both genuine  colt then should it .be professionally refinished or keep as is. I know you never refinish but it seems that a lot has already been done

Refinish is simply a waste of money imo

Unfortunately, your pictures are pretty much useless for identifying that 1911. Don't worry about the box it is in as that has zero to do with the condition or value of the gun. Try to take some with an actual camera using better lighting and get closeups of the left and right side of the frame. If the serial number isn't correct for the slide and it has been refinished, it is worth more as parts than it as a complete pistol.

This is how your pictures need to come out if you want to get an actual informed opinion instead of a bunch of guesses. Lighting is important in bringing out the highlights, so shoot it in different lighting to see what comes out the best. Try to stay in focus as blurry pics are less than useless. Here is one of the left side of one of my pre WWI 1911's. Note how the light and angle of the gun shows the grain of the metal finish and also note how the roll marks are crisp and the edges of the flats on the slide and frame are sharp. These details are important to properly evaluate that pistol.

As far as I can tell with the pics I vote refinish. Also the grips look like they were purposely worn to appear aged.
