Good Morning,

I have a nice Colt Commander in 9mm.  I bought it about 10 years ago, shot it a little, cleaned it up and put it away.  It has the standard blade rear sight and white dot front.

It's really nice little pistol, but I think it would be nicer with upgraded sights.

If you had such, where would you send it/what would you get?  I do not want it boogered.

I'm not sure about doing sights myself on a pretty blued 1911...it's nice and I want to keep it nice.

Suggestions?

Thank you.
PWS

Novak's does a very good job and even reblues your slide for a very reasonable cost.

As I have gotten older I like for my non RMRed pistols to have a nice big, yellow or green front sight with black rear. Novak's makes a nice large front for 1911's. I have one on my Ronin.

Pay once, cry once. Never go cheap on 1911 sights or the install if having it done by someone.

I recently had a local 'smith put 10-8 sights on one of my 1911s. Said the front dovetail was in there really tight so I was glad I didn't do it at home.

Thank you all for the replies…I’ll start shopping around for a smith/shop.

Choose your local smith carefully...

Personally, I'd opt for Novak's as well, or another similar known shop. You know it will get done right.

Me too, first thing that came to my mind. It's infuriating.

If you want to retain an original look but have a decent set of sights then Harrison has your parts. Their retro rear sight and staked front sight with wide tenon are what you seek. Don Williams at The Action Works can install them. You will want a competent smith who can stake that front sight properly and also silver solder it.

If you want to destroy the classic appearance of your pistol then Novak is as good as any.
