Since Walther is bringing the PPK back in .380 and .22lr, why don't we all share our favorite calibers for the PPK? And why we think so.

I like .32 ACP but that seems to be the odd man out this time around.

they are already in production, Steven Crowder has one they sent him. These ones are made in their US factory too, not some third-party outfit like the old imports or the S&W builds.

Mine is in 380.  For some strange reason I want one in 32.

.32 is way better! Recoils like a .22 with the same energy as .380 ball !  Like a brick through a plate glass window !

.32ACP is the best.

Who doesn't love a PPK!? Such a cool gun but good luck finding a reliable one. Maybe I just had bad luck but I've had 3 of em, all unreliable. 1 was an Interarms from the 70's, other 2 newer S&W  models. All 3 were .380's. All junk. It was sad.

Buy an older model you like and send it to Cylinder and Slide for a work over. You'll probably invest well over $1000 to do it right but It'll be worth it.

What caliber is best depends on what you want to do with it.
The original was designed around the 32/7.65 caliber. The 380 was shoehorned in. Because of this, the 32 version tends to be more reliable that the 380 version.
The 32 also has much lighter recoil, making fast follow up shots easier.
If the gun is to be carried for self defense, get the 32.
If it is going to be a range toy then it doesn't matter, but the 22 is the most pleasant to shoot followed by the 32.
If you like pain, get the 380.

the new ones are supposedly GTG, Walther is putting a lot of effort into doing it right this time

I’ve only shot a .32 PP and a .380 PPK/S, and the .380 was very harsh IMO. .32 is much more pleasant, has less hammer bite, and is easier to shoot well. There’s more than one reason why the vast majority of these guns were chambered in .32 ACP.

It’s strange how big of a difference a change in cartridge can make; one of my favorite handguns in .32, one of my least favorite in .380.

ETA I meant to do a Red Dawn Post in GD for post 4473, but this works too

.32 for playing classic, classy, Bond, James Bond.

Also, in .32, the PPK is just a purring pussy-cat in your hands.

If you really want .380 for CC, there are better guns out there to choose from.

If they came out with a new model .32 I would absolutely buy one.

If they make one in 7.65 I'm definitely in. Would like to see a PP version also.

The PPK was designed with the .32 ACP in mind. They shoehorned .380 into it later IIRC. I have a Manurhin PP in .32 and I love it. One of my early C&R purchases which I bought from Centerfire for $229

I m a big fan of the PP series pistols.

In a PP I like the .32 ACP.  It's silky smooth and low recoil.  But for self defense purposes it really needs to achieve 1000-1050 fps to get a 60 gt XTP to reliably expand.  It really needs the 3.9" PP barrel to do that.

The PPK and PPK/S has a 3.4" barrel and the .380 ACP is a better self defense choice in that shorter barrel.

My Austrian police surplus PPs:

Try a PP in .32.  I carry one religiously.  Just exactly the right size in the grip frame and barrel length.  Though the PPk/s would do just as nicely.
