Looking for a revolver I can carry on the hills. Will be used for snake shot and small wild animal protection.

EAA ?
Taurus?

Add just a few dollars and get a Ruger LCRx or SP101.

$450 will get you into a used Ruger SP101...that would be my vote.

A used M65? Do you need a .357 or can a .38sp work? I got a m64 last year for $250.

My stardard reloads are a 158gr hardcast at 1k fps. BuffaloBore or underwood have safe 158gr swc at 1250fps fwiw

Look for a Ruger Security Six.  One with a worn finish will be under $400 probably around $350.  They are very good guns.

It's the only .357 revolver I've ever had, but I like it a lot.

Yep, Ruger.

Can probably find a used GP-100 for $450.
An older Security Six or Speed Six is the answer you seek padawhan.

I picked a Smith and Wesson M65 police trade in from Aim.  I'm extremely pleased with over all quality and fit/finish despite it being a well used revolver.

It hits point of aim with both 38 Special and 357 Magnum ammo (both 158 grain projectiles).

Shooting 38 Special ammo is more fun that it should be.

Shooting the 357 Magnum ammo is enjoyable and not painful at all.

I carry my M65 in a Mernikle leather holster.

I would not overlook one of these simple fixed sight revolvers.

With patience you can find a used S&W in that price range. I would also not discount a 38 special with proper loads
One of the surplus outfits ( aim or classic) had S&W model 10’s for under $300 recently

Buddy of mine had a Taurus model 66 back in the day, it wasn’t a bad gun.
