[Last Edit: 5pins]

Test Gun: Magnum Research Desert Eagle.

Barrel length: 6 inches.

Ammunition: Armscor .50 AE 300gr GDHP .

Test media: 10% Clear Ballistics Gel.

Distance: 10 feet.

Chronograph:

Velocity: 1250 fps (Per Manufacturer).

Gel Temperature 70 degrees.

I had some issues with the chronograph so I don't have any velocity on this round but the factory claims 1250fps so we will just go with that. As you could image, a 300gr bullet at 1250fps has a pretty stout recoil but the heft of the Desert Eagle at almost four and a half pounds makes it enjoyable.

Last time I checked game animals are not wearing clothing so I just did two rounds in bare gel. Both rounds penetrated 22 inches of gel. The first round had a recovered diameter of .82 inches and the second came in at .81 inches. The recovered weight came in at 300.3 and 300.4 grains.

Fantastic. Thank you OP.

p.s. Could you grab your wife's mink or fox coat and use it to cover the jell, fire a few rounds through it? You don't own a bear rug?

That would knock your socks off.   I’ve shot 41 Magnum, 44 Magnum and 50 AE in Desert Eagle and I was surprised at the power of the 50 AE.   That meets my criteria for a Real gun.    I thought the 41 & 44 were plesant to shoot out of the Desert Eagle, the 50 AE reminded me of a 460 Linebaugh.   You know when you touch those off.

Thanks for post, surprisingly good expansion ot of Armscor.

I didn't even know there was a gold dot in .50.

I used to handload 300gr XTPs in my .44 Magnum Desert Eagle at just under 1300fps with N110.

I shot a hog with one on my friends property and it put him down better than the one he shot with a 16" 5.56.
