Recently I've really thinking of going the two tone route for a carry gun.  I've been looking at replacement slides as well as sending a factory slide to be cut and possibly hard chromed.  I don't really feel like spending a ton of money which obviously shows I'm insane since I'm thinking of sending a slide to do different places instead of just buying one.

I'm thinking of setting this up as the carry gun I'll be happy with years down the road.

Not sure where you are at but the DFW shows have had several of these lately.

I’ve seen G17 with very shiny chrome looking slides.

Were they cheap?

I'm in Mesquite, but the few Mesquite shows I've been to over the years have pretty much made me swear off going to gun shows

I don't like any Stainless or Chrome finishes...

Black, maybe tan or black and tan, but mostly just black...  JMHO.  YMMV.

I don’t recall the exact cost but I believe it was under $600  it it was a gen 4.

I had a gen 3 19 with NiB slide. It was nice for a while but looks pretty gross now. Definitely not as tough as a chrome finish.

I was that way for decades. I've seen some nice looking two tone 1911s, either shiny top or bottom and, but just never thought of the Glock as something to look good like that.

Mahovsky's Metalife used to be my go-to for electroless hard chrome on my Glocks.

I had a two tone 48 for a short while.  Every other Glock I've owned (which has been a stupid number ... been carrying them since 1994) has been black.

My preference is for black guns with black accessories.  I've been trying to embrace the entire "tan" (DDC, FDE, etc) anodized AR parts craze but find it tacky.  A few weeks ago I bought five Unity Tactical FAST mounts in FDE and regretted it the moment I mounted the first one.

Black is timeless and sophisticated.  Anything else is a trend.  I remember when OD was the rage .. then FDE ... then camo Cerakote ... then ...

My only exception to this "rule" is a two-tone 1911 and/or Browning Hi-Power in this format ...

^^^ is pure sex appeal.

^^^  makes me a little queasy feeling (I had that exact model / finish and it made me gag a little every time I looked at it).

"REVERSE TWO TONE" (silver slide / black frame) is gross, and all polymer guns obviously would be reverse two-tone.
Link Posted: 5/17/2023 1:51:10 PM EST
[#9]
Reverse two tone makes sense from a carry perspective to some degree. A stainless slide is very easy to refinish and is what receives the most holster wear on a gun.

I absolutely hate it, just cant stand it.
Bought a 43X and 48 at same time when they came out.
Never shot em, sold the 43X last week.

Guy asked if there was anything wrong with it and I said yes, it's ugly as hell.

I have an early silver slide 48. I’ve been thinking about sending it off for a polished chrome finish.

@triburst1

I would be careful.  If you flash your chrome in front of one of these chaps they're going to ask you to return their gat to them.

Since this is a tech forum .... what tactical advantage would pimp-chrome afford you?  You know, pimp'n ain't EZ.

I’ve got a bunch of other basic black Glocks. The only reason I own the 48 is for suit and tie carry a few times a year. I figure some nice it’s basically a dress gun, it might as well match my Rolex and cuff links.

I don't care for two-toned anything. Probably because I'm OCD and it looks mismatched.

Hard Chrome or NP3 on the slide wouldn't be too bad. I guess. Only reason other than personal preference to do it would be better abrasion & wear resistance. That makes sense, especially NP3. But, it won't be cheap.

Spice-o-life, everyone's taste is different.

I thought I'd read that NP3 was unavailable for handguns now?

I found one of the big shops that does hard Chrome that wouldn't be too out of line. I'll have to find the information I saved and see which one. But if you are truly set on keeping a gun for a long time, it definitely wouldn't be too much.

My trouble is figuring out which ones I want to keep

You're right, it's no longer available. Looks like Wright Armory has come up with a new solution for replacement, NT7 Finishing

Have no idea if it's the cat's meow like NP3 was, but you may want to give them a jingle and see what's what.

This.  I had some old popo17s 15-20 years ago with heavy slide wear.  Sent em off to Ford's in Crystal River Fla..  I had them done in bright nickel.  Not cool with the sun at certain angles; therefore I suggest a brushed 'topstrap'...  but they looked AWESOME!!

I bought a G43X and G48 when they were first released with gray slides

Both guns shoot great but I don’t care for the slide color.

It’s cosmetic so not a huge deal but I wish they were black.

25 yards, 10 rounds, night sights….

It's funny how these slides always photograph better than they look in person.  They look good in person, but they always look better in a photo

I also went with a polished SS barrel from Aim Surplus to create the look.

Bought a Fail Zero Nickel Boron G17 in 2010, first time I had seen a gun coated like that from the factory. Had my 19.3 and 26.3 done shortly afterwards by WMD Guns.

I have a silver 43X, I’d like to put a stainless barrel in it. I have 2 PM9s with the stainless slides.

I currently have a hankering for a matching 45/43X MOS set as I like the gray frame with the black slide, but they don’t make quite the right configuration yet.

Somewhere in the bowels of my safe is a new in the box third gen G19 with a NiB slide it was just too nice to shoot so now it lives in a box. I wish Glock would make a two town Gen 5 19 like Sigs Equinox pistols. I always thought they looked great. That black and stainless look is really nice.
