Recently I've really thinking of going the two tone route for a carry gun. I've been looking at replacement slides as well as sending a factory slide to be cut and possibly hard chromed. I don't really feel like spending a ton of money which obviously shows I'm insane since I'm thinking of sending a slide to do different places instead of just buying one.
I'm thinking of setting this up as the carry gun I'll be happy with years down the road. |

Not sure where you are at but the DFW shows have had several of these lately.
I’ve seen G17 with very shiny chrome looking slides. |

Were they cheap?

I don't like any Stainless or Chrome finishes...
Black, maybe tan or black and tan, but mostly just black... JMHO. YMMV. |

I had a gen 3 19 with NiB slide. It was nice for a while but looks pretty gross now. Definitely not as tough as a chrome finish.

Reverse two tone makes sense from a carry perspective to some degree. A stainless slide is very easy to refinish and is what receives the most holster wear on a gun.

I absolutely hate it, just cant stand it.
Bought a 43X and 48 at same time when they came out. Never shot em, sold the 43X last week. Guy asked if there was anything wrong with it and I said yes, it's ugly as hell. ![]() ![]() |

I have an early silver slide 48. I’ve been thinking about sending it off for a polished chrome finish.

I figure some nice it’s basically a dress gun, it might as well match my Rolex and cuff links. |

Hard Chrome or NP3 on the slide wouldn't be too bad. I guess. Only reason other than personal preference to do it would be better abrasion & wear resistance. That makes sense, especially NP3. But, it won't be cheap.

I found one of the big shops that does hard Chrome that wouldn't be too out of line. I'll have to find the information I saved and see which one. But if you are truly set on keeping a gun for a long time, it definitely wouldn't be too much. My trouble is figuring out which ones I want to keep ![]() |

I had some old popo17s 15-20 years ago with heavy slide wear. Sent em off to Ford's in Crystal River Fla.. I had them done in bright nickel. I bought a G43X and G48 when they were first released with gray slides
Both guns shoot great but I don’t care for the slide color. It’s cosmetic so not a huge deal but I wish they were black. 25 yards, 10 rounds, night sights…. ![]() |

Bought a Fail Zero Nickel Boron G17 in 2010, first time I had seen a gun coated like that from the factory. Had my 19.3 and 26.3 done shortly afterwards by WMD Guns.
I have a silver 43X, I’d like to put a stainless barrel in it. I have 2 PM9s with the stainless slides. I currently have a hankering for a matching 45/43X MOS set as I like the gray frame with the black slide, but they don’t make quite the right configuration yet. |

From the days when all the gun rags touted the RRA DEA rifle as the greatest ever. Those were the days when Magpul made magpuls, Bushmaster was Tier 1, Eotechs and vertical grips were awesome!
