Happiness is mounting 5,000+ year old Alaskan woolly mammoth ivory stocks on my 1981 factory nickel Series 70.

Thanks.  The pictures really don’t do her justice.  Hats off to Dan Chinnock who made the stocks.  He does some amazing work!!

Thanks! My only gripe with nickel is that every little smudge or fingerprint stands out like a sore thumb.

@deerranger

She was built in 80 or 81 and was my dad's gun. The Colt site says the serial number doesn't work but it worked a year ago.  I was with him when he purchased her NIB but he chucked the box probably after he purchased her.

I have his smaller brother, a commander, sitting here next to me.  It was also made in 1981 and is nickel finished.

It's the most reliable 1911 I've ever had.  It'll eat anything, JHP's, wad cutters.  I can even fill the magazine with empty cases and it will eat that, too.

But I think it's kind of ugly.

Oh, and was also my dad's gun.

How well do they stand up during actual shooting?

Manufacturers, that I've seen don't recommend carry or use.
