Engraving doesn't detract from a gun's performance.  That's why I was curious.  It's great marketing by the manufacturers.

The seller was likely USA Guns and Gear. They actually have a 3" L-frame barrel available right now, as well as a 6-shot L-frame unfluted cylinder. Unfortunately, money's tight right now. That means, of course, it won't be available when the money's available after the first of the year.

Yep, that's the one I was looking at and yeah, with Christmas coming up.... It's hard to justify on a gun I never carry anymore and rarely shoot.  I'd be better off putting a 3" on my 65 or 19 since I do carry them on occasion, usually when hunting.  I'm not sure which model that came off either, the markings are different than mine.

The markings look like it came from a 686+. It should still work fine on a 686-4, though.

No, no, you're supposed to tell me that it won't work at all on my old six shot model (can't recall the actual model # off the top of my head).   Hmmm..

Yes, I had it bead blasted back in the '90s when that was popular.  That gun's been under fresh and salt water multiple times and still no rust on or in it.

If it'll make you feel better, I'll remind you that you would also need to source a longer ejector rod than the one on your 2.5". That expense should be so extreme as to postpone any purchase until after I've been able to take the barrel off the market.

Does anyone know what barrel was sourced for the custom Gunsite 250r?

https://www.gunblast.com/MATT-Gunsite250R.htm

My 3" Model 10 has a slight step down from frame to barrel, these seem slightly taller. The article mentioned it was slab sided when they sent it in to be installed, so don't let that throw you off

The smith is kinda a rare bird, 1 of 183 made model 60-10 3” factory mag-na-port.

I spoke to the smith that did those, if I recall correctly they were model 10 bull barrels and were slab sided. The step is typical of a model 10 as most were made to take the pencil profile barrel, and they didn't change that for the bull barrels. Mine looks just like the one in the picture, it originally had a 2" barrel and I swapped a 4" cut back to 3".

Have another one coming in today.  PSA had three inch 10-5s in stock, for all of two hours.  Import guns apparently, no idea on country.

I have owned a bunch of 3" revolvers. I've had a 3" CS-1 M686, a M66, a model 10, a couple of M65, a M64 and several J-frames. The only one I still own is my Model 64. I finally realized I wasn't shooting my CS-1 or 66 simply because they were so valuable. I never shot magnums out of the 65 and got tired of cleaning the powder from the end of the magnum chamber. For me, the 3" is a carry gun and the perfect version is the M64/M65. The longer ejector rod smooths extraction and the K-frame trigger is just so much better than the J triggers. Shooting magnums is brutal though so the .38 is all I need, thus the M64 is the one I kept.

Some eye candy:

I love the S&W 3" K's. I have the 4 they made in stainless, now I need a 10 and 13.

Top down 65-5, 65-3, 64-3, and 66-2.  Picture probably won't work, but the link might.

I had a 696, forcing cone is super thin.

Traded it even for my 3" 66.

I misread your comment initially. The frames were from HK police guns with pencil barrels. Those have a different frame from the bull barrel guns, which is what you were explaining in your post.

I've sold this one to acquaintance after getting some cutting at the muzzle he thought he could fix/mitigate.  Only on soft lead, but I shoot a lot of lead rounds

My current carry 3" is much less attractive but I really like it

Probably better just to go round butt. If not you’re gonna have a problem finding grips.
Of course if you don’t plan on changing grips, not an issue.

I have thus same one, French bring-back. I love this gun. It came with Trausch grips and they feel soooo good. Mine was hardly shot, it's still very tight. Hell, I haven't even shot it yet.

I really like 3” revolvers and have picked up a bunch over the last several years.

K Frames:
Model 10 RB blue and nickel and a SB former Aussie police return that looks like it’s been ceracoted.

Model 13 blue and Nickel

Model 64

Model 65 LS

Model 66

Model 547 RB (a 9mm non moon clip revolver)

J Frame:
Model 60

Model 317

Model 30-1

Model 37 no dash

Plus a Colt King Cobra

Close to 3” at 3 1/8” is my L Frame 386 SC Mountain Lite, a seven shot 357.

When I can figure out again how to post photos I’ll post them.
