I Had a 3" Jframe, I  thought it was awesome,  until I fired 158 great jacketed hollow points through it. Sold it shortly after.  I'm 6ft 3,, 230 lb., giant hands. Been shooting almost 50 years. It just wasn't for me.

I was drooling over a S&W 657 .41 Mag.  3" at my local gun store on Friday. They had a tag on it that said only 200 we're made. It was used, but looked new. This picture I found online, looks just like it. Attachment Attached File

@backbencher, interesting idea with the 30 SC, hopefully they’d be able to fit 6 chambers in the cylinder.

I have 2.5 Smith 19, and never found a 64 in a 3" at a reasonable price, but love this Astra Police.  Has some nice workmanship for the money and very smooth action.

It about the size of an N-Frame and is a great woods walk gun.

Around a dozen.  Smith 10, 64, 65, 36.  Ruger GP100, Speed Six, and SP101.  Charter Pathfinder, Bulldog, and Undercover.  Manurhin MR88.  Colt Kind Cobra and Cobra 22.

It's the perfect revolver length.  My GP100 is a Wiley Clapp and it is as close to perfect as a revolver can get.

Always on the hunt of more.  A 3 inch Python is on the wish list.

100 is the 6-7 shot medium frame, 101 is the 5-6 shot small frame, think J-frame but beefier.

I used to really want a S&W 13 or 65 with a 3" barrel but never could find a nice prelock model in the condition I wanted for a price I was willing to pay so I got this instead...

I'm pretty happy with it

That pretty well sums it up.  The Wiley Clapp models are a step above.  Nicer sights, triggers, features.  They've done both GP100 and SP101 versions.  The 100 is roughly L frame size, built hell for stout.  The 101 is a heavy duty J frame.

They made one.  The Wiley's come out in small batches.  There's been at least three, maybe four, that I can think of.  They also do WC 101's.

Gunbroker.  Local shops.  Gun shows.  The usual suspects.  Check Ruger's website to see if any are in production at the moment.  Historically they sell reasonably well but not terribly fast.  Finding one it whatever variation you want shouldn't be too difficult, just need patience.  And money.  Last I checked they were right at $1k.

Don't over look the standard GP100 either.

My GP-100 3-in looks just like the one in that pic.  Those are Ruger grips.  It’s actually lighter than it looks.  The size and weight are nice.  The trigger and accuracy are great.  It is my shower and saltwater boat gun.  I’ve used it in the shower for years now.  Comes out wet every time… yet never rust.

That gun gives me funny feelings.  I have always wanted one and consider it the perfect example of what I believe to be the perfect revolver size.

A close second would be the S&W CS-1

I'm happy with the K6S so far, though I have changed out the wood grips for a set of Hogue rubber.  Much more comfortable with magnum loads.

I have some Smiths in 3". One is a 5 shot J frame. One is a 6 shot K frame. And one is a 7 shot L frame. Most like the K frame the best. Obviously the J frame conceals the best, but the trigger isn't as nice and you give up ammo. The L frame is sweet and hardly any bigger than the K frame and is my favorite. But the ladies seem to prefer the classic K frame.

Is this a 1917 or a 1937?  I've got a 1937 45acp/auto rim cut down just like yours with a bit of melting done to it by a pistol Smith in the 50s.  Shoots 230 grain to point of aim at 25 yards.  Just about perfect carry gun but it is a bit hard to conceal six 45ACP rounds.

Only b/c you're not brave enough.    Truth is, w/ your skinny build, it's kinda hard to conceal anything.

Commercial M1917.

My favorite 3" I own?  Easy, my daily CCW, a Kimber K6S with three dot night sights:

But I'm also tempted to get a King Cobra 3".  The other ones that have caught my eye are the Gp100 3", and 03RN's model 66 above.  But I'd be willing to try out a M13 as posted above

3" is just the perfect "general purpose" revolver size.

OP- the new Colt is a great gun.
The older S&Ws are getting harder to find and more expensive.
I find the Ruger 5 shots to be less refined. Compare how much sleeker the Mod 60 is above my SP101.

I love the look of his guns and I'm seriously considering sending off my M65 to have the barrel chopped, grip rounded and action tuned. No need for refinishing a stainless gun although I do like them bead blasted and I prefer a full hammer on anything larger than a J frame.
