Have a S&W 442-2 that’s always in the pocket and want a .357 3 inch for OWB carry. I really liking the S&W 19 carry comp but like the added round in the 586 l-comp. Are there any others I should look at ? What are your carry 3” revolver’s ?

Colt King Cobra, it's smaller than a k frame and probably same size as sp101 and m60, only with 6 rounds.  Detective Special size frame. The more I shoot it the more I like it. Attachment Attached File

GP100 is another option to look at.

GP100.  Especially the Wiley Clapp models.  If you can find one, Smith 65.  But those almost never come up on the used  market.

I have a thing for three inch wheel guns: two Speed Sixes, a GP 100, a Smith 64, and a Manurhin MR88.  I’ve eyed the new Colt but the price tag keeps deterring me.

Of course you could go all out and get a nice little 3” in 44 special. It’s very close, ballistically, to the 45acp.

Charter Arms Bulldog.  The older ones are nice.

Anybody checked out the Smith 19 K-Comp?  I've been eyeballing it for a while but can't find too many actual user reviews.

8" steel at 15 yards from concealment.

12 yards. .357 mag from concealment

I would be tempted to try the 3" 7 shot gp100 or 3" 7 shot L frame but a k frame speed loader is about as big as I want to put in my pocket.

My buddy has the M19 carry comp. Awesome gun. The front night sight is worthless. I much prefer the meprolight i installed on mine.

The kimber or the colts are to small for high round cound magnum shooting imo.

S&W K frame 6 shot or L frame 7 shot for me. They are basically the same size, so I'd lean towards the L frame for the extra round and they hold up better with magnum use being sturdier. Round butt grip no doubt. Cut the spur off the hammer probably. The Kimber revolver looks nice and compact for a 6 shot 357 mag, probably hurts to shoot more, but carries better I bet. The Smith is a proven gun though.

I vote for a 7 round 686+... and customize it to your liking...

Mine is a 3" stainless Wiley Clapp GP100.  Although I admit to being hesitant to carry it because it would be almost impossible for me to replace considering availability and cost if you could find one.

It's a near perfect carry revolver in my opinion.  If I had the blued version I'd carry it and use the stainless for range fun.

Myself, I also carry a 442-1 when in a hurry out the door. A big fan of this revolver!! My 3" wheel gun go to is the Ruger GP100 Wiley Clapp. This revolver doesn't take a back seat to many of it's competitors. And don't forget you'll need a quality holster to ride your 3" 357 magnum in. Don't forget it's quite a bit of steel you'll be lugging around. I have this Privateer Leather Highwayman which does nicely and comfortably.

Thats hot. Ahrends? Hows it handle recoil from full power .357? How do you carry it?

Id really like to upgrade to a 7shot l frame some day.

Id want to try carrying one first. The M66 carrys so easily aiwb id hate to find an extra tenth of an inch is just a bit to much. An L frame speedloader is a bit to wide for pocket carry(I picked up a friends L frame comp2 at a uspsa match and by the time i got home i was like wtf is going on in my pocket).

Fwiw the new kframes are reportedly just as strong but are limited to 6.

I really like my 2 1/2" Python but would never buy one at todays prices.
Today I'd go with a L-frame Smith. I've carried a 4" 586 quite a bit and like 4" but could easily live with a 3"

That's one of the main things that has kept me from actively considering the WC GP100s for my uses, is the sheer weight and size of the thing.

ETA:  the WC GP100 is a damn fine revolver.  But I already have a 4" 7-shot L frame that weighs 39 oz.  If I didn't have my S&W that's the same weight, a WC GP100 or the Match Champion would be on it's way home with me.

Depends on what I'm doing with it.
If I'm regularly carrying it I'd go small. SP101, LCRX, J frame. I don't like carrying big guns.

Just to shoot and look at, I'd probably go new Ruger over new anything else. Used, S&W pre lock.

It weights the same as a S&W 3" 686 Plus 7 shot (36oz range). The point is just about all your 3" 357 magnums will be heavy to some point. My Privateer holster and quality 1 1/2" belt tames this GP-100 just fine for all day daily wear. I've proven it to myself. And yes, I find it easier to conceal wearing winter clothing than lightweight summer clothing. Not impossible though...... that's why I like my Ruger 2.25" 357 magnum for summer months if I see fit. And a 3" could fit the bill too @ 27oz.

The GP100 3" is a great gun.  The Smith and Wesson 65 3" round butt is good but so is the Ruger Speed Six also.

With the proper holster and belt (especially belt) its really not that bad.  I carry mine frequently and find its perfectly doable.  No, it won't work for pocket carry and IWB may be less than ideal.  But I never carry IWB (I have enough trouble just getting me inside a waist band).

If you're okay with an extra 1/2" and in an N Frame, early Model 27.  (ETA, not my gun, I don't own one.  Yet.)

Here is quick picture of three 357 magnums with 3" and less barrel lengths that I just happened to take out to the range today. All Rugers i.e SP-101 5-shot w/2.25" barrel 26oz. Ruger Speed Six 6-shot w/2.75" barrel 32oz. And my Ruger GP100 (Wiley Clapp) 6-shot w/3" barrel 36oz. Just gives you some perspective OP of barrel lengths and weighs compared to your S&W 14oz 442-1 w/1 7/8" barrel (and yes, I love mine!). I also have a S&W Model 686 Plus 7 shot w/4.125" barrel that stayed home today. I hope you fine what your looking for in a 3" 357 magnum. Plenty of quality choices, but which one will you choose....
