The girlfriend loves the 1911 in stainless - I know that she would enjoy shooting it in 9MM more so than 45 ACP - plus I do not have to stock up on another cartridge.

What are the options?

Thanks,

Springfield, Dan Wesson, Kimber all make a pretty full line of pistols, from CCO style to Government size, in 9mm.  DW is without a doubt the way i'd go.  BUL armory makes a very, very good 9mm 1911 as well.

I use a DW Pointman9 in USPSA single stack...probably the softest shooting 9mm i've ever shot.

While not stainless, the sig tacops 9mm pistols are freaking nice. I love mine in 9mm.

@FishKepr

She enjoys trips to the range - self defence - home defence.  I do not think that she will ever run a two gun match with me...she may though.

If might be something that we get and becomes our toy...I am a "Glock Fan Boy" Carry a G42 and compete with a G34

Again not stainless, but I really like my DW vigil.

Cheap Star 9mm and have it plated?

If I was looking for a stainless gun I'd go Springfield Armory.  I haven't shot any of their 9mm 1911's though.

Dan Wesson Pointman 9 would probably be where I would go. There’s a ton of stainless options though so you might look them up and ask if she prefers one over another.

Not stainless , I have a Ruger really like it in 9mm. A friend has an EMP which is pretty damn nice to shoot as well. You might suggest she try an EMP as the grip is smaller but very comfortable.

Ruger, Springfield, Kimber, S&W, and Remington all make stainless 9mms.

Chances are fair that most of those will probably need at least some tweaking (spring weights, etc.) to run 100%.  Keep whatever factory mags in the box and buy a set of Wilson ETMs or Tripp mags.

If it's in your budget any of the Dan Wesson models in your favorite flavor, many are available in
stainless steel as well as in 9mm caliber...some in 5" Bbl. Gov't size and some in Commander size
at 4.25" Bbl. and at least one in Officers size 3.25" Bbl.

I also like the fact that Dan Wesson often uses ramped and supported match quality barrels in
many of their models...

I also like the high quality bar stock/tool steel parts and tight tolerances they use on all of their
models, you know it last a very long time and your easily able to pass it down to future
generations...

Good luck.

Dan Wesson.
1911 Valor SS Vbob 9mm.

I had a stainless Springfield loaded 9mm.  Like a dumbass, I sold it.  That's what I'd recommend.  I've been waiting for Springfield to come out with a stainless TRP 9mm but it seems like they are all about the grip zone now.

Dan Wesson. Valor, TCP, etc. Outstanding value for the money (north of SA/Colt production pistols, but south of LBs, Nighthawks, WCs, etc).

Another GF?

If that's not an option, my 9mm Kimber (single stack) functions flawlessly and if you need more capacity, get a 2011-design modular, double-stack pistol.  Those pistols are used for competitive shooting, so tend to be very reliable and typically hold 20+ rounds of 9mm in a normal, human, sized mag.

Check out the Colt Competition Gov't model in stainless !

Mrs. Santa got me one for Christmas  Been to the range a few times already.  Ditch the Colt mag and go with Wilsons.  Well over 500 trouble free rounds so far.

It is a joy to shoot !   I think it will out-shoot any poly gun that I have.  I've always loved the 1911 but the Colt in 9mm is my new sweetheart

Hard to go wrong with just about any Dan Wesson 1911 model in your favorite flavor...The
only question is what is your budget...?

Personally I like the Dan Wesson Specialist line and its available in all Stainless in 9mm and 45 ACP
calibers...It has pretty much all the bells and whistles in a single stack 1911 pistol...Also, available
in 5" and 4.25" barrel lengths.

Colt Competition, Gold Cup and, Gold Cup Trophy all come in stainless. Good value in that they hold a higher resale potential than any others mentioned over time. Not that I would ever sell any of mine. The others all require finding someone in the market that knows/understands the actual value present where the Colt sells itself.

Last year I picked up a Ruger SR1911 lightweight commander sized pistol in 9mm. I was skeptical but that pistol has made a believer out of me. Very accurate and so far no issues with whatever I feed it. Since it's a 1911 I'm sure sooner or later I'll find a bullet type it hates but so far I have not. Using factory mags so far.

The mags that came with my S&W 9mm pro-series are Wilsons as with my regular S&W in 45acp. I did pick up some Tripps also. The 45 does have a brilly barrel but is a small logo. No tweaking required at all as a bunch of normal or abnormal I should say issues are resolved in the design. The lower left is a S&W in 45 acp. and the upper right is the 9. There are some subtle differences you can see visually and others, not so much.

Both have ambedextrious-safties and frontstrap checkering (finer and full on the 9) which are aggressive enough but not uncomfortable and adjustable rear sights though a bit more cost wise then the standard. Very few (only 3 actually) of my non-classic handguns sport their original grips (though I do have them) and two of them are shown here, the 9 mm is one of them as it is fine as is as they have a slight palm swell. The trigger guard is undercut, it has a full length guide rod, an oversized extractor,  a matched grade barrel with full feed ramps that are hand polished, extended slide release, precision crowned muzzle, flared mag well, beavertail palm swell, the slide has been contoured in for weight reduction in cycling 9mm's. There's more. The trigger does seem loose on it's own but when pulling it's smooth and crisp. It's very accurate.

There are a lot of good options out there but don't overlook the Smith & Wesson Pro Series 1911... I've owned 3 and they have all been 100% reliable and are tack drivers.

I'll second the recommendation for BUL Armory.  They make a great 1911 and its available in stainless.
I recently bought one of the "Trophy SAW" guns and can personally vouch for the build quality.
The US Distributor is GP Arms and they're great to work with.

You don't need to limit yourself to a stainless 1911.  Get any good 1911 pistol and then you can have it hard chromed.  I like that finish a lot better than stainless, anyway.

The Springfield SS "loaded" series are pretty well appointed. With an ambi safety, ramped barrel, adjustable sights, beavertail, and skeletonized hammer. Mine was bought used so I can't say if the two piece guide rod came with it. I see them on the auction sites, many with a fair BIN price maybe $10 above the auction start price. That's a whole lot of gun for a bit over $900.

The only things I did to mine (from my parts bucket) was add an extended slide stop, oversize mag release, and a cheap under the grip, grip bushing magwell. I have no objection to the lock on the mainspring housing so it can stay.
