I have an Ed Brown 1911 barrel.  I have measured the depth of the lugs.  From the breach to muzzle they are .040, .055, .055.  I am thinking the .040 is not the correct depth.  Your thoughts please.  Disclaimer: I am a mechanic not a gunsmith.  Thanks, DB

New barrel, or the one that came with it?

From memory, you want 0.010" clearance between the slide and the top of the barrel, when the slide is retracted 1/4" while pushing the barrel back into the VIS.

It may be the 0.040" depth is what works to provide the above clearance.
