Here's mine XD 40 M3 tac light and night sights. I own an HK USP 45 and a glock 9mm and this one is my favorite of them all.

Hey Guys... Im also considering an XD for carry ... recommendations as to 4" or 5"? I dont want the subcompact (yet) because it will also be my range plinker. Im sold on the XD i just need some input as to which size!
Is there a large difference in accuracy between the 4 inch and 5 inch?
Ditto on the XD40, the recoil is not bad at all. I have aprox 500 rds thru mine with 0 problems.

I have a 4" barrell XD 9mm, I traded a sig 239 in 40 for it . Of all the calibers I have shot , I shoot 45 and 9mm best , can't hit squat with a 40 , total mental block on my part. ANyway 400 rounds in 1 sitting with the XD and no jams, misfires, stovepipes nothing . nothing at all useing fiochhi 9mm and some UMC . I really like this little gun , I love to plink and practice with it . but nothing beats a 45 for CCW and man stopping power . 2nd pic for ccw work for me is the XD9

g-man,
I had the XD9. It shot so well and so easy, my little sister confiscated it. I got the XD40 and I am happy. It does have a little more snap than the 9, but not as much as my G23 imho. I will be a lot happier in Sept when full size mags are available, but for now I still prefer 10 of .40 over 15 of 9mm. And you know the arcom rule.... GET BOTH!!! |
XD40 Service model here. Had it for about a year. Easier to conceal carry with it. My first preference was a 1911 govt' until you try driving, getting in and out of a car, and walking around worrying that you're gonna print.

I have two original HS2Ks, both Gen 1. One for shooting and the other is still NIB. Great guns. I've been toying with the idea of getting an XD40. Just haven't done it yet. I'd sort of like one of the SS models. Or whatever that metal is.

Can't go wrong with the XD40. I recently purchased the 4" XD ported 40cal version and I've put through about 500rds with only 2 jams. My XD did not like that blue boxed American-Israeli ammo. I've owned a couple Glocks but the XD feels so much more balanced in my hand. My only issue is that front night sights are not encouraged for use on the ported models by Springfield, since the exhaust ports will knock out the element. Other than that, the XD is the best handgun I've owned.

I'm seriously considering picking up an XD9. It would be my first handgun (well besides my walther p22).
I was thinking of going with the 4", definitely 9mm. Some considerations: I'm not a great shooter, so accuracy is important, but not crucial. I was thinking that a 4" would last me a long time before I became more accurate than the gun. I want to carry it concealed oacassionaly. |

I've had an XD40 Tactical(5") since February and I like it a lot. I sold a Glock to buy it after shooting one. I went with the .40 mainly because it was the only 5" XD I could get my hands on. It has turned out to be good thing, I really like the .40. More bullet mass in a 9mm sized package. Hopefully my next purchase will be a sub-compact in .40, and maybe a Bar-Sto 9mm barrel so my wife will like it.

... in the words of the "Great One"... Oh how SWEET it is!!!!

I bought my XD9 two yrs. ago. During that time, I acquired a Glock 19, Glock 34, and USP9. (I was really into 9mm for awhile.) What I like to do is shoot my handguns side-by-side, same ammo, and same distance. Of the 4, XD9 out shot the other 3 every time I took them to the range. It consisently had tighter groups. I got rid of the glocks but still have the USP9 to go with my XD9. I have to have the side-by-side competition to make range time more interesting. XD9 is one fun gun to shoot! I've never had a failure to fire with it. The more I've shot it, the smoother it has functioned!

I have a custom belt rig from Wild Bills, a FIST IWB and a G-code kydex. Ironically, the cheapest of the three, the G-code, is my favorate of the three. gunnersalley.com |

I've got the .40 4" model, had it for little over a year now. I have to say that it is definitely my favorite concealed carry gun! It's small, light, and has enough barrel and knock-down that I feel very well armed. I've also got a Beretta 92FS and a Springfield 1911 WWII .45, which are also tons of fun, but don't carry nearly as well as the XD. I use a Galco custom fit slider holster.

go to hs2000.com and inquire there. i am satisfied with the xd 40 and wouldn't trust my life with anything else. jmho

I now have roughly 1000 rounds through my XD9 Tactical... the only thing it lacks is a nice set of night sights. (soon to be installed).
I am seriously considering selling my G19 for the XD-9 Duty model. May be a bit easier to carry. If you are debating between a .40 and a 9mm... I would suggest getting two in one! Get the .40 and then for about 60$ you can get the 9mm drop in barrel. No gunsmithing needed... just drop it in and youre good to go with 9mm too! |
As far as holsters go the Ross series leather holsters for the G19 will fit the xd with some work... force it in and leave it sit for a few days to streatch the leather and your good to go!
Where are you getting $60 barrels?? I'm seeing more like $150 - 200 |
Just bought a XD-9 subcompact and will soon be an owner of a XD40 standard model.
Just picked-up my new XD40 service(4") last week. Liked my XD9 SC(3") so well that I gave it to wife so I could get the new XD40 for myself. Yes the 40 has a little more recoil but it's managable. The best feature I like is the trigger action.
Im sorry... that was a type error... supposed to say $160. |

Here's my Highnoon paddle holster for my subcompact ("spanky" model).
They have some nice ones for the money. www.highnoonholsters.com/Product_Line/product_line.html |

Dude, you have no idea how much you're making me want one of those subcompacts.

Many toil between a XD-40 and XD-9. I say, go with the XD-40. Why? Because you can get a 9mm conversion barrel that will allow you to get two guns from one. You can also get a ported barrel that reduces recoil by nearly 40%, giving 9mm the kick of a 22.
If you currently own a XD-357, and are bummed by the cost of 357SIG, get a 40 or 9mm! http://www.xd-gear.com/proddetail.php?prod=02PA |

Hello I would like to know how its possible to shoot a 9mm out of a .40 ? With just a barrel swap?
Isnt there something about the breech face that makes that impossible? I know you can go from a .40 to a .357 sig . Ive also heard that useing a diferent barrel in your xd will void the factory warrnty! Im not stepping on any toes here its just i need to know,Im interested in a XD for myself! thanks.................................... |
From what I understand it's not just a barrel swap. It's a kit that would be a barrel and probably springs and maybe the guide rod. Someone will probably chime up that has one.

Do you like the 1911?
To be honest, when I started looking for another 9mm (I personally think .40 is worthless, I prefer 9mm and .45 both for their pluses and minuses) I checked alot of them out. For me, the XD 9mm fits has all the best features. Light recoil, more accurate than a Glock, more safety features than a Glock, better trigger than all the DA options out there (I prefer a consistent light pull instead of a 4 pound first pull, and then a 10 pound pull after that), grip angle like a 1911 (points more naturally), and DAMN reliable design. On top of all that, it's got a very nice price tag (I hear their is someone on the EE who has a good price on one ...). Seriously, I doubt you would be sorry with it. I put one in a friend of mines hand who was used to the .40 Glock (from going through the police academy, where he put thousands of rounds through one), and he STILL shot better with the XD 9mm. Hope this helps. |

XD 40 OD Green in the house! Love it. 1inch groups at 10Meters
4 inch XD .40 black. I've had it about a year and I love it. I had a few FTF, but that was due to a used mag I bought. And .40 over 9mm any day of the week and twice on Sunday!
All you need is the new barrel. Drop it in and youre good to go. The breech face is the same in the .40 and the 9mm. A word of caution... you can go from .40 to 9mm, but you can NOT go from 9mm up to a .40. It does not void the warranty as it requires no work... just drop it in and go. The .40 cal mags will work as high cap 9mm mags too! I can load 15 rounds of 9mm into my .40 cal mags with no problems. |
