First thing I did was I used a dremel with a sandpaper drum to smooth out the finger grooves, side texture and rear texture. I took my time and only took small amounts as you can easily get carried away. I did a relief cut under the trigger guard as well. Again took my time and went till it felt good. Make sure all of the stock bumps/lines/etc are sanded out or they will show through.

Then I outlined the edge with a straight edge and a pencil. I picked the lines where I thought they would flow the best. After my lines were set I sanded down all of the surface where I was going to stipple. That way it wouldn't be shiny if I missed a small spot.

I started by outlining the whole thing. I kept the straight edge in place and used it as a guide for the stipple. I tried to hold the wood burner vertical or close to and make slow random presses. Once I went over an area I hit it again with faster presses to break up the first texture. Its time consuming but necessary. I also kept turning the frame and hitting areas from different angles. That way it wouldn't show patterning from one angle.

About a 1/3rd of the way through my wrist started cramping. So I had to do small sections and take a break.

In all it took me roughly 3-4 hours. Thats with breaks and running a quick errand. I think I can speed it up next time as I know "what I'm doing"

Next thing is I am sending the slide off to have it milled for a RMR and some serrations added. Ill post more pics when I get it back.

You really just have to start working at it. Once you start sanding there is no turning back.

Its really not as "hard" as one thinks. Its more about just getting the nerve up to start.

Nice. The wood burner I used was from Harbor freight. I don't recall exactly what I paid but it was well under 20$
