Xiden will decommission what is left of our nuclear arsenal. China's is newer, so maybe he can sign a treaty with them so they can protect us with theirs.

As I understand it,

The Football Briefcase is more a Communications Terminal.

The Actual Launch Codes are in a hard envelope called a Biscuit that has to be snapped open. That way if anyone has "peaked" at the codes, it is apparent the envelope has been compromised and a new code set needs to be provided.

In the event of something BAD happening (Football fumbled - Air Force 1 goes down, ect...) the President could still use the codes on his Biscuit to order a Strike when / if he reestablishes contact.

(or so I've heard...)

There's no way there is an activation or deactivation. They just stop taking orders from 45 at noon GMT or something.

What happens when he wants to launch a strike, and... the fucking thing has dropped the key?

What happens when some tech decides he doesn't need access and drops the activation?

I am betting it is simple and robust, and uses voice codes from the card he carries to final authenticate instead of complicated doodle doot secure terminal crap.

I guess I’m missing how this was a “logistical nightmare”. Like is said, there are multiple “footballs”. At noon, they deactivated Trump’s “football” and code, and activated a “football” near Biden, with his code. I’m sure each new President gets his own unique code, and it may be something that gets changed periodically anyway.
