some states have "ghost gun" legislation that affects the legality of 3d printed firearms, however what i don't understand is what's to stop someone from buying an oem gun with a registered serial number, then printing a frame for that gun and putting the serial number on the 3d printed gun? if the police run the number it's just going to return as a registered to your name?
should the law be changed so that people who already own guns and thus are legally allowed to own guns be able to make 3d printed guns without restriction as long as they don't sell it? since it seems the reason for banning ghost guns is because it allows felons and otherwise prohibited persons from legally acquiring firearms.
i've seen 3d printed guns that are basically a 1:1 replica of the real thing, if a cop somehow detected it at the range or if you're carrying or whatever, and they handle it and run the number it'll return as legitimate.
