It's March 1st, the year 1800. You wake up on the west bank of the Mississippi where the gateway arch is today. You have the following items with you:
Wagon 6 horses Select fire M4 with M203 Select fire M16A4 Semi auto .308 of some kind Glock 17 and 19 1k rounds of 5.56 1k rounds 9mm 500 rounds of .308 50 40mm HE rounds 20 40mm tear gas rounds Suppressors for all weapons night vision IR lasers for all weapons Thermal clip on for. 308 Solar charger and plenty of spare batteries Basic survival kit No food. Rand McNally road atlas Where do you go? Do you head east and get ready to fuck with some redcoats? Head west and find the gold? Head south and take over Texas? Or just stay where you are and build the kingdom of St Louis? The things you think of when driving for 11 hours.... |
Gather three trustworthy buds.
Stay in St Louis. Open bars and hotels. |
I would have to cache a bunch of that stuff.
After that... I don't know. Barter for a ship capable of taking me to New Zealand where I would establish my own kingdom there? |
Establish a large farm along the Missouri.
Daniel Boone & his family would have settled in the region the year before so it’s not like its virgin wilderness. ETA - at some point I’d travel down river to fort DesChartres. It would be a ruin at that point, but I’d personally still like to see some of the original structure. |
Move up to the point where the Mississippi welcomes the Missouri, and open the greatest, most powerful trading post in North America.
You go to Washington with your weapons and ensure the British are decisively defeated in the war of 1812. Quebec becomes a US protectorate and French language, culture, and customs are stamped out leaving the future Canada stronger, if geographically stunted.
Go west, convince Native Americans I am God, take our army to conquer Canada and then gift the entire land mass to America. While still maintaining my status as Warden of the North.
Next |
I'd go to Europe and prepare to kill Marx and Engels in their cribs.
Get bored after a few years, kill their parents instead, and chill on my small island nation Napoleon gave me for the military hardware |
Head east.
Find a competent engineer and armorer to help me mass produce these weapons and ammo. |
Having something others will want in a lawless place, alone, and with no support is a good way to just end up dead. I'd bury all of it and use what I know to quietly build an empire.
Go east and begin a political crusade to change some things in the constitution.

Head down to the Salem area and crack the lead deposit first.
Become the leading arms supplier of the world. Build my own personal army with my vast fortune. Personally finance the War of 1812. Call in unpayable debt. Foreclose on the US and rename it MacLand. |
Heading west to the Wyoming territory and maybe venture into the Yellowstone country.
Probably settle near Jackson Hole and trap beaver. Try to stay away from the Blackfoot tribe to the north but wouldn’t worry too much. |
Wait in St. Louis until the Hawken rifle shop opens up. Then buy a bunch of those rifles.

If I woke up in St. Louis 1800 I would say to myself, "Self, you need to figure out how to get the hell out of St. Louis in the next 150 years or so."
Can’t give a direction but would be searching for anyone in Lyndon B Johnson’s direct line of ascendants—the sole purpose being to murder them so he is never born.
That is all. |
Head east, find someone that can manufacture ammo. THEN head west.
Head to what would be California and start digging for gold.
Seeing as the revolutionary war was over, don't think I'd participate in that. I'd tag along with Lewis & Clark. Perhaps the expedition would be renamed to "Lewis and Wookie1562." Travel and stay West to build an American empire working with the Indians enjoying the temperate weather and abundance of wildlife and resources.

WTF do you think a road atlas would be of any use at all OP?

I voted something else.
Oh sure, I could be lord of the plains and control vast swaths of the West and Rockies but I say go back East, get a large warship, paint it a bright color that makes it stand out and go pillage the high seas and some places in Europe. With that hardware you could capture vessels and assemble a vast armada and rule the seas. Make your base any place you wanted to, a Scottish castle maybe. Word would spread about your brightly colored war ship and armada and ships would flee from you without having to fire a shot. I would fill my castle with wenches and wealth from all over Europe |

No food? Probably east to find a lot of people to kill or to sell my weapons to. There is a logistical element to this scenario which would really complicate things.

Ok
how old are you at time of insertion into this timeline? Lets say 1yo? In 100 years roads are still at minimal effect! Meaning a road atlas would be useless! |
Road Atlas is worthless. I stay right there and cry about not having packed USGS topo maps.
Maybe I find an evil mastermind and sell my stuff to him and become a blacksmith that only gets pissed off if somebody burns my barn down. |
