Somehow 18 of these suckers are in my gear room.  Been playing V’s since the 70’s.  This is the latest.  2014 120th Anniversary Gibson Flying V.  I have two of these already...one in cherry and the other in ebony.  Great guitars.  Love the bound necks.

I played a flying v years ago. I had a les paul and an old gibson acoustic. I horse traded both of them off and still have a fender american strat and a martin d15 acoustic.

Bad a$$. I've been eyeing a Jackson King V Pro for months.

Now, that is a beautiful axe!  I don’t see many V’s with neck binding, which makes yours all the more awesome.

On a semi-related note, for several months prior to the Apocalypse, I was on a mission to acquire a nice (late 70’s-mid 80’s), MIJ LP clone. Having come so very close to pulling the trigger on multiple examples (actually put a “78 Greco Eg-600 Jeff Beck model in/out my cart so many times, it was pitiful), I now find myself gravitating toward a nice (MIN) Flying V instead.

I will admit that the initial push toward a V, came about after having a conversation with my brother  who upon bringing up the subject of Flying V’s, remarked something to the affect of, “ah, a la Hendrix at Rainbow Bridge?”  I knew Hendrix played a V on some of his stuff with Lonnie Youngblood, but had forgotten about Rainbow Bridge, in particular, Villanova Junction.. After rewatching it several times, I was hooked.

Of course if I believe the media, I’ll be dead in 2 months, so I’ve decided to hold off on buying one ‘til I’m absolutely sure, I won’t be trying to eat it in 2021. Still do a lot of window shopping tho.

Does the V affect the sound at all, or is it just an aesthetic choice?
