Can you believe they're going to allow us to use the electrical outlets to power our own slow cookers to warm the food we're supposed to buy with our own money! They'll provide the lights and heating, how awesome is that?!!!

What a wonderful gesture by the kings.

Be forever grateful while also setting up a bitcoin operation hidden under the floorboards.

Tell your employer that it is not a Holiday Lunch. It is a Christmas Lunch. In addition the day of the Christmas Lunch call in sick and tell them you have diarrhea then go fishing.

OP. your boss doesn't owe you anything other than compensation for work you have done on his behalf.

You aren't entitled to:

a party
a bonus
free pens

BTW, if your boss wasn't "greedy," the company and thus your job wouldn't exist.

Sure, technically.

But that attitude will give you high turnover and less productive employees

So OP is entitled. Got it.

Would you like them to give you a perfect attendance trophy as well?

I get zero holiday bonus. In fact I throw a holiday party for my coworkers that isn't sponsored by the employer and I pay for CFA catering out of my own pocket.

Outrage!

Back in the 70s and early 80s we used to fill (unused) garbage cans with beer and ice. We would have grills and meat and all sorts of food brought in for major Holidays.

Life was a little easier then.

An employer is not required to do anything for the holidays. Not sure why some people feel so entitled...

As an employee, I want to get paid and left the hell alone.

As a boss, I pay out of my own pocket to thank employees for having to deal with the company BS.

One year for Christmas my dad promised us a backyard pool that he’d buy with his Christmas bonus, unfortunately that was also the year they stopped giving a Christmas bonus and started giving out a jelly of the month subscription.

They gave us a sour cream bundt cake sprinkled with cinnamon powder. I'd rather roll the dice with potluck food.

Which ones, you may not know.

Yes, mom found a man that could provide her with a pool and a Chevy Suburban.

That is sage advice

Better to just order pizzas or some other food from a local restaurant or deli.

That’s a good idea, have everyone pitch in 2 or 3 dollars for a couple of pizzas.

Owner is providing us catered lunch tomorrow to celebrate an employee that has 30 years.
We have already had several this year for 25 years, including me. Owner cooks steaks and employee gets a Rolex at 25.
Same for 10 years but you get a desktop type grandfather clock.
Also tomorrow I get 5% of yearly gross income as a Christmas Bonus. In Feb we get profit sharing, 5 digits.

This is a family owned machine shop with 30 employees.
