Concealable - NO, handguns are much more concealable.

Accuracy - No, a longer barrel with a stock makes for much better accuracy.

Deadlier - No, they aren't even in the running for types of guns used in deadly shootings.

So, it's either 1; they want the 200 bux revenue, OR 2: They are just fucking assholes.

I'm going with No.2

Third option.

Control. They want the $200 for the tax stamp but want to control who has them and want a registry.

When anyone asks ‘why’, the answer is always money. Our government is always needing more revenue from us. They can’t control their spending so we need to be taxed more. Think of how many times we are taxed (well the items tax is attached to) on certain items and they want to tax more ($600 comes to mind).

But this one may be because they are fucking stupid and don’t know anything about firearms and are trying to get any bites they can from our apple. Death by a thousand paper cuts until they meet their goal.

It's an obvious circumvention over the intention of the restrictions of Short Barreled Rifles.

It's a circumvention I agree with, but it's quite obvious that's why they are upset.

Basically, industry outmaneuvered CGA, the ATF doesn't like that.

Net net it's good for us, as it's about to redpill a bunch of people on the inherent nature of these unelected agencies.

Even if you follow the rules, they can still fuck you. For years, the gun community thought they could get away with cucking to the arbitrary rules. People arguing with each other on the internet over 922r, etc.

The first rule of any bureaucracy is to maintain the bureaucracy.  It’s low hanging fruit once the higher ups decide to make fruit salad out of it.  Based on bump stock turn-in’s they know damn well enforcement will have negligible impact out in society.  But it will stop future sales so a chart engineer will get to claim their leprechaun repeller is working (in official leprechaun distribution circles).

Large format pistols will continue to be sold with naked back ends. Those are gnomes, not leprechauns.

Please sir, may I have another bowl of budget…

It has nothing to do with money.

They could give a shit about money. If they wanted more revenue they would streamline the NFA process to maximize transactions.

It's about power.

They made a rule. People operated in a way that circumvented the intent of the rule while still following the rule.

They don't like that.

One, because they are a bunch of fags.
Two, they will ban parts of the rifle starting from the rear and working to the front of the firearm till nothing is left to resemble an ar15. Today no brace, tomorrow no hi capacity mag, the next day no semi auto fire function. They will finally take a small break once it resembles a bolt action. And then pick back up to take that from you next

Pistol braces are low hanging fruit, just like forced-reset triggers, "solvent traps", and bump stocks.

They can make the case that the devices were specifically designed to exploit loopholes in the way their regulations are written, and aren't protected by the 2nd Amendment.

They've essentially been told to go after anything they can ban without creating a fuss or needing a law passed by Congress.  If they were actually concerned about getting rid of items used by criminals, they'd be putting all their effort into hunting down the manufacturers and sellers of Glock FA conversion backplates since that's the new ghetto fabulous gun accessory, but that would require actual police work instead of banning shit widely used by law-abiding citizens.

IIRC the earliest drafts of the NFA included pistols, basically rifles and shotguns were the only types not taxed.
When it was pointed out that you could saw a rifle or shotgun down to handgun SBRs and SBSs were added.
It later became clear that including pistols was in essence a "Poison Pill' so they were removed but the SBR/SBS provision remained.
I think silencers were included because of fear of poaching (it was the Great Depression).
Also, the ATF are assholes.

There shouldn't be a regulatory agency for the 2nd amendment anymore than there should not be one for the 1st amendment.

The entire agency needs to be struck down by the SC. Shall not be infringed.

The ATF allowed pistol braces to happen knowing they would play fuck-fuck games in the future with it. The future is here now

It's not the money.  That $200 doesn't go to the ATF.  The ATF doesn't give a shit about the money.  It just goes to the treasury to get used for... something.

I would bet its a result of pressure from the White House to "just do something" about "gun violence."

Pistol braces are the easiest target for a reason that someone else already posted.. they are basically used to circumvent the NFA.  Not saying I agree with banning them, but the reason they are being targeted is pretty obvious.

Good. The ATF and NFA are both unconstitutional.
SBR/SBS (OAL) regulations are the most asinine of all firearms restrictions.
Why so much bias against intermediate weapons?
Handguns don't require NFA regulation.
Long guns don't require NFA regulation.
Intermediate length guns should be taxed $200 and registered?
