Patrick Buchanan has retired at 84 after a long and influential career as a writer, TV commentator and presidential advisor (Nixon, Ford and Reagan). He saw through George H.W. Bush and later opposed the Gulf War. He opposes the blank check Washington has given Zelensky in this war.

“For us, the greatest stake in this Russia-Ukraine war is not who ends up in control of Luhansk, Donetsk or Kherson, but that we not be drawn into a military conflict that would put us on the escalator to a war with Russia, a world war and perhaps a nuclear war.

America should not be involved. Let the commies fight the commies. And we worry about fixing our own shit.

I don't want to live in Central America. Don't spend money on the US military even until we secure the border. If Ukraine defeats Russia and we become Central America or Brazil, what does that do for us? Just disband the military if we aren't going to secure the border, let alone worry about Russia invading Russia Junior.

The issue with this is that appeasement doesn’t fucking work. We tried it in WWII. All it does is embolden jackasses to push for more. You do what needs to be done now, with proxies so you don’t have to go toe to toe with them directly later on, which would carry a much greater chance of world war and or nukes.

War is hell, I hope it ends soon for all soldiers involved, fuck the Russian government, but their 18 year olds can’t help where they were born or conscripted.

We can't afford border security.
We can't afford security for our schools.
Hell, we can't afford to maintain basic infrastructure.

But we can somehow afford endless foreign conflicts.
I don't have a dog in the Russia-Ukraine fight. Until we get serious about America First, I find it hard to give a shit.

Conservatives as a group do. NeoCons don't.

And the episode is exposing a story that we've been getting wrong for a while now: We've somehow convinced ourselves that it's conservatives who are the warmongers and liberals who love peace.

It's because of how our parties have shifted on the issue.

Unless you want a shit global economy wrecked by foreign wars, Putin has to lose badly in Ukraine.  Hopefully the Ruskies can get rid of him before this conflict reduces them to a minor world power.

No..

Its simple. We are spending billions, to prop up a corrupt government, in order to fight a different corrupt government we dont like. We only "care" because they've been laundering money for DC elites. Thats it.

The same applies to the leftists. A minority with megaphones get media coverage

I dont care

Fuck Putin more than Fuck Zelensky.

Putin's actions cost the lives of hundreds of thousands. 10,000 non-combatants massacred in Bucha. I am ok with letting Ukrainians kill as many Russians as possible. I hope they both go to shit, but Russia first. We should have ended the Russian threat in 45.

Just don't send American forces to fight.

AND NO GOD DAMN NATION BUILDING OR SPREADING DEMOCRACY.

After the war, let Europe clean it up.

We haven't given Ukraine a "blank check". We aren't sending pallets of cash like Obama sent to Iran. We're sending weapons from out stock and paying to replace those weapons.

Get both.  It’s like spending $10 today to save $100 tomorrow.  That’s the beauty of proxy wars.

Vietnam war, Republicans being unpatriotic by not supporting the war more. Vietnam war later, Republicans are evil for sending kids to die to protect rich peoples investments. Later  Republicans are evil for objecting to democrats efforts to send aid money to countries around Vietnam to hunt down South Vietnamese that had escaped when South Vietnam fell and send them back to Vietnam.

Lol. Neocon war justification math is even shittier than the green agenda justification math.

Supporting the continued billions on this war and claiming to be fiscally conservative is about as valid as a natural born male claiming to be a woman. But definitions don't mean anything anymore, so you do you queen.

Republicans abolished slavery, voted for women's suffrage, and passed the civil rights reforms of the 1960s.  It really goes to show that propaganda can do anything when there are millions of idiots who believe they are literally Hitler and warmongering bigots

This.

There is no “true conservative” position in these conflicts. We live in a global context which is much smaller (and thus more complex) than the 1700’s. Every single action or inaction globally has domestic ramifications. Isolationism is an anachronistic pipe dream of the right.

Drug wars and corruption in Central America make smuggling illegals into the US a big business. You can fight that war on two fronts at the same time...at our border and in Central America. Both fronts serve American interests. But bleeding hearts will also advocate for action in Central America for humanitarian reasons. So the action isn’t objectively conservative or liberal. The motivations are.

There was a time when America could stand back and watch bemused as European powers ducked it out. That pretty much ended with the 20th century. Nuclear power, long range strategic force projection, a global economy, internet access...all these things blur the lines between the foreign and domestic policy concepts.
