It seems that every gun control bill focuses at 10 rounds. Why not 8, 9 or 11? What is so magical about 10? Personally, the limit should be, well there shouldn't be a limit.
I seem to remember that 10 came from the lobbying efforts of Bill Ruger. Bill didn't want to compete with all of the "new" polymer guns with 15 or 17 rounds as all of the Ruger's had 10 round mags. So good ol Bill used the power of legislation to cap it to 10 rounds. Does anyone have any articles or info sources that speak to the subject? |

Just retards who make rules with no knowledge. Simple as that.

You expect government regulations to make sense? Here's another one: Why are rifles limited to sixteen inches and shotguns eighteen? Hint: it has to do with lobbying efforts by one of the most popular rifle manufacturers of the early twentieth century...

VA's proposed bill last year was 12. IIRC NY's SAFE was 7 originally.
I think they roll a d20. |

Don’t know. But I do know I will continue using 15, 17, 30, 40, 60 round mags. I’ll use a thousand round mag if I want. I’m done listening to their bullshit.

That excludes the majority of rimfires. I'll bet the numbers on how many of those out there are insanely high.

Just a guess, but maybe 10 is an easier pill to swallow than 5, which would come later, followed by 1 and finally 0.

Good point. Six rounds should be enough for any citizen. After all, law enforcement officers were well-served by revolvers for many years. Six rounds it is.
No...wait. Three rounds is enough. We can't place more importance on the lives of waterfowl than people. Three rounds it is. |

Because it is a nice, arbitrary number that is divisible by both 5 and 2. It will capriciously change to 5 once 10 is enacted.

10 was based on Ruger's statements way back when. Beyond that its meaningless except to create a new loophole to close with a lower amount. Once they can set the first arbitrary limit, the rest are easy. NYC uses 5.

Bill Ruger was so worried more people would buy a 17 round GLOCK instead of his 15 round P-series 9mm - that he actually liked the idea of legally limiting pistol magazine capacity to 15 rounds.
When the very idea of 10 round magazine restrictions became a thing - he hoped to curry favor from politicians by stating publicly that. "Real men only need 10 rounds." ETA: Correction, he said "No honest man needs more than 10 rounds in any gun." https://www.nhregister.com/connecticut/article/Magazine-limits-were-first-proposed-by-11435654.php |

I wonder how many 10rd pistol mags would fit in a custom cross chest bandolier rig?

View Quote Ten is a nice round number, that also eliminates all double stack pistols of the 1980's. The democrat party sent out feelers about a 7rd limit, 6rd limit, and some sneaky bastards wanted a 5rd limit, which would have eliminated most revolvers (this was also the time that the democrats were focused on "saturday night specials" which were pretty much all handguns) Bill Ruger, contrary to 87chans desire to defend democrats, had nothing to do with actual legislation, was trying to save his recently introduced P-series pistols by "compromising" at a 15rd limit. Now, his antics certainly were not helpful, but the combo of mag limits and feature bans was already set. |

Humans like round numbers. We use a base-10 number system, so 10 is a round number.

Because they think 10 rounds sounds "reasonable" to "most" people.
Once they get 10, they will push for 7, then 5 etc |

I know for a fact p98's came with 15 rounders. Mini's did ship with 5's though. I owned two p89's at one time. Bill just liked the cock I think. |

Because that is what most 22lr detatchable magazines hold.
That is the last one they plan to take away. They will just continue to chip away at all of them until thats all thats left. Yhen they will scoop up that one last. |

After 10 round limit passes and 10 round mags are used in a shooting then they will push for 5 rounds.

It is a random number to use until the next, more restrictive law is passed. Why 16" for an SBR or 18" for SBS? Just pick a random number.

It's to set the stage for a subsequent bill with a 5 round limit, then the next one with a 1 round limit, then they'll find a way to do zero.

2-9-89 (26) The term `large-capacity magazine' means a box, drum or other container which holds more than ten rounds of ammunition to be fed continuously into a semiautomatic firearm, or a magazine which can be readily converted into a large-capacity magazine. Notice the date. Ruger making an ass of himself happened after that date |
