Looking at older Accord. I know some years the auto trans was about guaranteed to go out

Don't know the exact years, but both Honda and Acura had issues with the trans mated to the V6 in the early 2000's.  I believe the Acord was fine as long as it was the 4 banger.

Yeah, you definitely want to avoid any mid/early 2000's Accords with an auto trans unless the seller has documentation proving the trans was properly serviced. We had to have the trans in my son's '05 Acura TL rebuilt a little over a year ago and it was just shy of $3500.

That 2003 to 2008 ish time was not so hot for Honda. Then again 2016 was not so great for wifes honda HRV as it blew a tranny at 90k.

No more Honda's in the future.....

You would be better off looking at a Toyota.

As a Honda owner I agree.  Next vehicle will not be a Honda.

Had a 01 civic with a standard tranny. Honda replaced the transmission with 3k miles on it. Last Honda I bought.

Everyone told me my ‘04 Odyssey transmission was going to shit the bed at any time. When I traded it in at 200,000 miles it was still shifting great and no one believed me that it had never been rebuilt.

98-02 were the nightmare years for the accord auto trans.

Around 06 or 07, IIRC, but it doesn't matter. They were bad enough that there is pretty much 0 chance of finding an affected one that hasn't long since been fixed.

I bought one of my sister's rusty 2002 CR-V with 313,000 miles on it.    Still has the original tranny in it.........gonna guess even the original fluid.    Still runs and shifts good, however, it's about 500 lbs lighter from all the body panels rusting off.

Wife's 2010-2014 cross tour accords(AWD version) had an issue that basically would grenade the transmission at about 70k. Started with minor shudder under acceleration at about 25-30 and disappeared at about 30. wasn't noticeable at first but got worse. did research and turns out that it was common.  got rid of car ASAP at 65k miles and a minor issue, no easy fix as fix was replace transmission and do again ag 70k.

I miss my '97 Accord.

I had a ‘99 Honda V6 Accord.  The transmission started shifting funny after the warranty expired.  Honda extended the transmission warranty for the later year models but wouldn’t take care of me.  $3,500 for a replacement transmission when the car is worth not much more than that. Nope ??

You just got lucky.

I know first hand that auto mated to the V6's from '98 to '04 were shit. My ex had an 04 Odyssey and the trans shit the bed at just under 100k. My son had an '98 Accord, same issue at 138k. IIRC, the problem was something to do with the 3rd gear not getting enough oil and burning out.

Before that I was a very big fan of Honda but have never and will never buy one again. The fact that they keep making and selling the same fucked up tranny years after they knew it had design issues pissed me off to no end.

The early v6 transmissions are to be avoided.

The others while not very smooth do fine.

Some of the early cars are having parts availability issues.

My 91 accord wagon has a quarter million miles

As already stated, the v6 transmissions were bad. Not sure what year it started but through 2003 and maybe somewhere in 2004 they were updated. Wifes 05 Pilot has 180k and is fine. They also switched to synthetic fluid which is compatible with the earlier years that originally did not come with synthetic fluid. Super easy to change the trans fluid. Remove plug, about 3 quarts comes out, refill to line. That only replaces about a 3rd of the fluid.
