Squale was born in the 1940s making waterproof watch cases.  They also provided cases for some of the more famous and renown Swiss companies’ dive watches.  If you take a look, it’s entirely possible your favorite vintage diver from another brand was in a Squale case.  Most watch companies were never entire in house completed like Rolex and Seiko.  They have a rich history in the golden age of Swiss auto divers either with their own little brand or for major companies watches.  They had significant Italian ties beyond the Shark name as well. They for hammered by the quartz crisis of the 1970s and started quartz only production in the 1980s.  The Italian family/company that was the Italian distributor and Italian military contract holder now owns the company, and the watches continue to be made in the Jura Valley, where several other Swiss brands also make their watches in the “watch valley.”

They have some mid level offerings, and, some entry level 5-600 dollar divers with SEL bracelets, signed screw down crown, ceramic bezel, a 25J ETA2824-2/SW200 with almost two days power reserve, 200M WR, a 120 click unidirectional bezel, sapphire crystal with internal AR coating, a date cyclops, C3 superluminova, and even GMT versions or 500m WR variants for about 200 dollars more.

Now, the Lume could be thicker and stronger, the offset logo can be off putting some some, some models are derivative vs their original offerings and models, but at the end of the day this is essentially a steal for an auto diver with these features and legit Swiss company/dive history.

Same. Beautiful example, Proto. I traded my 16710 away shortly after trying on a 1675. The 16710 lost all of its allure.

Thank you guys. I’m a big fan of vintage rolex. Sell the 16710 if you dont like it anymore and get a 1675!

It’s funny because my father loves modern sport models and me (30 years old) loves vintage. So myself, my girlfriend, and our friend always send him watch photos with our old watches.

We have a 1972 1675, a 1948 bubbleback, and a 1980-something datejust (which was left to her by her late mother) here.

1545 gen 1 is the best Swiss watch made under $1k IMO.

Fantastic watches.

Nowhere near as nice as most here, but pretty proud of it regardless. I did my first watch mod last night. This started as an Invicta 8926 with Seiko NH35a movement. I removed all markings except for on the pendulum, changed the face, hands bezel insert and band. I'm already looking for my next mod project

Well, I'm in love with it, but I have no real basis for comparison.  It's only my second mechanical watch, and through a sort of funny alignment of the stars, I bought it the same day as the first.

Story time...

My grandfather was a jeweler and a watchmaker, but despite that, I was never really a "watch guy".  As a kid I'd always hang out in his shop on the way home from school, and play around with his lathes and engraving machines and whatnot.  He died many years ago, but just recently my mom sent me a couple of antique balance scales that I vividly remembered playing with in his shop.  That, plus a little alcohol, got me feeling sentimental, and I decided to finally splurge on a mechanical watch as sort of a tribute.  The one I had my eye on was the Hamilton BelowZero (from The Martian--I guess I might have a thing for movie watches).  So, what the heck, I ordered one.  The second I placed the order, the little voice in my head said "you know how this ends--you're going to buy a Bond Omega".  And it was right.

So, I think the Omega is beautiful, but it's pretty much the exact opposite of the Hamilton (which I love for completely different reasons).

Nice!  If you want the bracelet to this, go to https://www.mastersintime.com/us/en/watch-bands/citizen/ and enter the movement-case number. It may say 23mm or something goofy, but it'll be the right one.  You can then search by the part number and see if you can find it cheaper elsewhere.

Well thank you very much for the link, I may indeed try to search out a bracelet while I break in this beaver strap.  I honestly will say I've been toying with the idea for sure but in my short search was coming up empty.

My first “real” watch (Seiko 7548) that was purchased for me back in 1981. It seems like I’ve come full circle now and appreciate the older Seiko quartz divers:

Is that Rangeman all it's cracked up to be? It does a lot of stuff and frankly I'd use every feature, so I was flabbergasted to discover it. I'm this --><-- close to buying one.

Bruh,
question 1. "it don't do sheeeit as far as I know, haven't looked into it and I check the time o' day and that's it"

question 2. "why, coffee (espresso by the way) in spades, natur'ly!"
