What are some must see things in the area?
Smoky Mountain Knife works, several gun stores, Local Goat restaurant, Alamo Steak House...........alpine coasters, gokart racing, etc...........touristy but fun
Motorcycles, smoky mountain roads, motorcycles, tail of the dragon, did I mention motorcycles??
Spend some time in the Great Smoky Mountain National Park. Drive to Cade's Cove and take the back way out down through Townsend. Drive up to Clingman's Dome, as that is the thing to do. Visit Smoky Mountain Knife Works.
ETA: For groceries, there are two Publix stores that are OK. There is also a Wal-Mart on the parkway that has surprisingly nice stuff. I'm talking Choice Tomahawk steaks and such. |
clingman's dome is a nice short hike with a cool old structure you can walk up to for a great view.
mt leconte!!!!!!!!!! it's a private bb on top of a mountain, you hike 8-10 miles in, stay at one of their little cabins, eat, and leave the next day. it books a year in advance but cancellations happen. Wife and I did it last year for our anniversary and it was "just the right amount of challenge" according to my wife. sneak in booze. |
How about go on a freaking hike? There are a few trails in the area.
We going our 3rd time in a year and a half this June/July
I can’t get enough of that place. Told the wife I’m sending resumes up that way prior to our trip |
White water rafting and Ziplining. Both are a blast.
Wait...Next week or July? Makes a big difference. |
Went there for our honeymoon. Went on a pretty cool cave tour. Not that far away but I can't remember the name.
Taffy and fudge, lots and lots of taffy and fudge.
SMKW is worth a visit. Chris |
Was up there right after Christmas. for a week. Very touristy, but fun.
Floyd Garrett's Muscle Car Museum. Its small but pretty cool. Smokey Mountain Knife Works. Across the street is Bud's gun shop. |
Don't waste your time in town, its just like any other tourist trap. Get up in to the mountains and do some hiking.

Stand elbows to assholes with 10 million other people.
Really, I'd head up into the park. Go hike, etc. In Pigeon Forge, Hit up Smokey Mountain Knife Works. Gatlinburg, the mini golf places are pretty fun, mountain coasters, etc. |
We have a cabin there that we rent out, but we can also use it whenever we want. We went just before Christmas, and my wife prevailed upon me to see the show at the Comedy Barn. It was pretty cool. They do a clean comedy show that is really funny. My kids liked it too. And it is not posted against carry.

The Smokey Mountain Knife Works
ETA: I think this is the only place mentioned more than once |
Go to Cades Cove and get stuck behind a stupid fucking NYer that drives 5mph and stops on the road even though there's a God dammed sign every 1000' that says to use a pull off if you want to stop.
Blue ridge parkway from Cherokee to Ashville is a nice ride. Lots of hiking, rafting fishing in the area.
Goats on the roof....First thing that comes to mind when I think of that area.
Lots of stuff already covered, but I'll add:
TN Air Museum at the Sevierville airport. Occasionally, they have small air shows. They have a couple of MiGs on display. Along with SMKW and Bud's Guns, there is a small LGS in the left side of the BP in front of the Home Depot on Hwy. 66 called J. Floyd's Golf and Guns. Foothills Parkway has some nice views and will take you to Chilhowee Lake and just beyond that is the Tail of the Dragon. ETA If you go to Cade's Cove expect it to take 3-5 hours to do the loop. Take some food and drinks just in case (or have a picnic) and be sure your vehicle has some gas in it. It is very true that asshole New Yorkers (and others) will block the road even though there is parking everywhere. |
Cherokee Grill in Gatlinburg puts a damn fine steak on the table. The Alamo Steakhouse in Pigeon Forge sells Waffle House grade steaks, they suck.
Oh, It's already been said but, Smokey Mountain Knife Works. |
Smokey mountain knife works. Take a ride into the park and do Clingmans Dome at least. Maybe do Cades cove. The rest of town is a tourist trap.
ETA. Hiking up to and staying at Mt LeConte lodge is on my bucket list. |
Got married between Sevierville and Gatlinburg in ‘94. She turned out to be a cheating whore cunt. Don’t do what I did.
Right now?
Don’t go. It’s packed beyond limits. Everyone is sick of being cooped up for covid and traveling there. Check some of the sites online, it’s bumper to bumper and shoulder to shoulder all over Stuff like this is the common, and it’s much worse now Attached File |
I went after Christmas.
Never. Again. Even my wife wanted to leave early (so we did) eta: guy above me is right. We were 10-15 miles from everything but it was 1-2 hour drive due to traffic. No parking. cancel now. |
There's so much white trash entertainment it ain't even funny ????????
Dollywood is definitely worth a visit. Go carts, upside-down house, cabin rentals, shops to spends the money's, human hamster ball, definitely SMNWs!!! And the coleman store, And atv rentals, did that on my honeymoon! Plenty of good family fun. |
The National Park.
This time of year might be tolerable in town, but mid summer is a special crowded hell with grid lock that is about impossible to navigate past. |
