I have to admit I didn't even know there was an E1, only reason I knew that it was a Gevarm right away was because Ian on Forgotten Weapons did a video a while back on his. That distinctive bolt was easy to remember.

I think you might be right. I actually have the later version of the model 50 that is not open bolt and it doesn't have that step in the bolt. But after looking at some pictures it looks like you might be right - it looks like the open bolt guns may have had that step.
