Typically every tax return I make it a point to buy a firearm. This year I figured I would make it interesting and find the best possible deal on arms list. What’s the best deal on a used gun you’ve came across?

Desert eagle .50, came with a 25 round box of ammo with 18 rounds left. 900 bucks and 3 mags.
Bosses husband never shot it and would rather have a 10mm so he sold it to me cheap |
Saiga 12 with ~100rnds of mostly high-brass for $160. That was in 2006.
I feel like my Tec9 was a steal at $700 after watching one go for over 2k on gunbroker like a week later.
$80 for a Chinese SKS. It was missing the mag. But that was easily and cheaply fixed.
$100 for a Taurus PT-99 |
Nothing that stands out really.
Typically if you can snag an NEF shotgun or rifle for $100 or less it's a good deal. I did trade an '87 jeep for a Model 29-3 and $700 cash one time, i think I made out a lot better on that deal than he did. I imagine the Jeep is rusted to pieces by now. |

good buddy of mine sold me his Mint maybe 50 rounds through Ruger P90DC for $200
I picked up an Ithaca 37 Deerslayer recently for $185, out the door.
Back in 2006 or so, I got a Remington 870 Police Magnum for $150. Around 2008, I got an AR-15, EOTech, Pelican case, and a bunch of other accessories for about $500. |

Paid $460 for an HK P30sk with night sights and 3 mags recently.

Both revolvers.
First: S&W 6 shot 686 with Pachmayr grips, cleaning kit, 50 rounds of ammo and case for 150.00. Friend of mine came home and his wife was fucking around with it, pointed it at him and said "FREEZE SUCKA!!" and he said "OK this is not safe" had no choice but to get rid of it. Second: S&W 29 in Nickel. PRISTINE condition. Came with original and Hogue wood grips. Bought it in 94 for $300.00 Sales guy said the owner just bought it, took it to the range and said it was too much gun for him. Probably had only 50 rounds through it and I KNOW I only put 50 rounds through it. I have had friends offer me $1,000.00 for it. |

90% discount on a multi thousand dollar gun from an FFL who didn’t know or didn’t care. Bought it directly from the FFL owner so it wasn’t a misinformed underling.

Free K98k (due to loss during shipment, and subsequent refund/insurance payout, and LE recovery years later).
$100 Romanian SKS with Chinese military phenolic resin stock (which people call "Bakelite" but isn't) in 2009. Blade bayonet, non-matching. $250 SIG P229 in .357 SIG with factory tritium sights and a couple ban-era 10rd mags in the case. $350 Arsenal SLR-95 (which I subsequently traded straight-up for an SA-93). $1000 original Radom RPD imported from Poland. (uncut and military arsenal refurbed, just had Century's import markings added). $5000 M60E3 (built on new receiver by Capco). This and the RPD are post samples of course. |

Steyr Maadi for free .
My little brother bought it new , 20 years later he owed money to my older brother and gave him the AK . 2 years later my older brother gave it to me because he new I was always trying to buy it from the younger one . |

I was asked to appraise a Colt 1911 ( 1915 manufacture) and a Colt 1911A1 (1942 manufacture IIRC) both US Army marked. Took me a few hours to ensure they were both all original guns. The guy let me keep the gun of my choice. I kept the 1911. He had gotten the guns as part of a house he inherited.

200 for a glenfield 30a 30-30.

BHP for $450
Looked a little ratty, but 450 wasn't bad for one, so I layed down the money and creds and filled out the 4473...as he was calling it in I took a closer look at everything, and all the little blemishes in the crappy light, when looking closer, were Waffenampts. It was a correct early 40s BHP that had been in someone's sock drawer for decades. Given how shitty the finish was in the first place on those guns, it was a really good example. Apparently they bought it from someone who didn't know what it was, they didn't spend a whole lot of time looking it over before it went into the display, and I got lucky with it. To be fair they still made their margin on it so whatever...the guy behind the counter wasn't too put out by it and was pretty happy that it was me taking it home, and not one of the other local fudds who'd have refinished it and swapped the sights out for XS Big Dots or something |
I can’t remember too far back but in the last few years I would say my beretta 92a1 with a bunch of Wilson combat upgrades for $500. My old Remington 870 police magnum for $200. And my s&w model 66-8 combat magnum with extra speed loaders for $450.

Quoted: $80 for a Chinese SKS. It was missing the mag. But that was easily and cheaply fixed. $100 for a Taurus PT-99 View Quote Sorry, let me correct myself. Remember when you can buy a HUGE wad of Cosmoline for $99.00 and find an SKS hidden inside? |
ONG 870 for $270. Waiting to find someone who wants it for its significance to sell it.
$400 for a S&W 586 in 2012-ish

Bought this Model 65-3 in a pawn shop for $165 around 20 years ago. Even back then it was a bargain.

Old guy came into the precinct with >100 guns. Wanted them to go into good hands so he wanted to sell them to officers for cash. Mostly Fudd guns NIB.
I got a browning buckmark and a 30-30 for $300 for both. Both were unfired, the buckmark was still in the box. |
Here are my contenders:
Two $100 Winchester M12s (one was pretty rough but fully there and functional - the other one was the victim of a stock cut down that I reversed with a new stock) $600 Colt 1902 Sporting (in excellent shape - was missing a magazine) $300 S&W Single Action K-38 Masterpiece (in box mint) $100 1899 Savage Takedown (had it restored) |
Older guy I worked with asked me if I was into old military rifles, said he had a couple in his closet that he had owned for years and wanted to get rid of.
I went and looked at them, he asked for $100 a piece and said he had an old bayonet he wanted $25 for. So for the grand total of $225 I purchased a mint all matching Eddystone model 1917 with original bayonet and scabbard and a mint all matching Remington 1903. |

Am I in before someone tells a story of getting a Luger for a pack of Beeman's and a Buffalo nickel?
probably my Yugo SKS, I picked it up at a show for $120 because someone Tapco fucked it. I've looked at returning it to original but it would cost more than I paid for it. |
HK P7M8 for $500 purchased in 2006. I sold it in 2014 for $2,500.
Bought a milled MAK 90 for $300 in 2016. It was like new condition.

Buddy got himself into major financial shit and offered me an unfired Tikka T3 Stainless .308 for $150. He's welcome to buy it back at that price any time.
Smith 14-7. The full lug version. Saw in the case, looked at it. Still had the box with the original price tag of 249.00. Clerk said "Well, it's marked 249, but it's used. How about 200?"

FN SPR A3G with a Leopold VX-3I 6.5-20X50
