I know nothing about revolvers, never had one before but got this for 5 boxes of 5.56.
Dunno what the ammo price is locally, but this pistol looked like it was worth the $10 in ammo that walked out the door in exchange for it. Was sitting in my buddies safe and needs re blued. Weighing if I should do it myself or send it to someone. free online image hosting |

It's the Ruger revolver model before the GP-100 series. Usually a very solid revolver.

Quoted: I'm old enough to remember when the cops carried those. View Quote Thought it was a marketing name until I looked it up...just thought it looked like a classic and liked how they had a reference to 1776 on the frame. Looks like I am SOL for ammo until I can get components to roll own. |

id shoot it first. if you find someone to do the bluing for another 5 boxes of 5.56, do it, if not, just get new grips and shoot the snot of out of it. it will be great!

It's a Security 6 made in 1976 that somebody didn't take good care of. I have one with the same barrel length but in stainless steel. Trigger isn't as nice as old S&W guns but they are built like a tank. Mine was my 16th birthday present as my dad figured that since his tax dollars paid for those school buses it only made since I get his money's worth riding it. I shot the shit out of it over the years.
Clean it and shoot it if you can find ammo. |

Good guns, 1st revolver I ever bought was a Security 6. I like it

Quoted: Solid shooter, heavy action and nothing you do will ever really lighten it up. That's an early SN gun, so you are stuck with the factory grips or having a custom set made. Other than that, get a holster and get to shooting! https://i.postimg.cc/Pq5qKC7Q/IMG-20210116-204645175.jpg https://i.postimg.cc/K8NznP0Y/IMG-20210116-204721392.jpg View Quote That looks awesome, I’ve been looking around online for a place to reblue it, with my luck I would make it look even worse. |

OP that is the classic working man’s revolver- fricking awesome gun. My Old Man had one.

Damn, hope it was at least good ammo and not some FMJ plinking shit.

Not to mention that you can pistol whip the fuck outta somebody with it!!

It has character, and nothing you do will ever increase the value of the gun. As it sits, it's about a $200 gun. Reblue it and it'll still be a $200 gun since it was refinished - but it won't have any of the character. I'd clean the duct tape residue off of the grips and oil the gun really well, and just have a nice, solid 4" .357 revolver. |

Good price on that one! I have a Blackhawk 44 bicentennial with the same writing on it.

Quoted: Its a good solid revolver and the precursor to the GP100. It is not quite as robust as a GP100, but it can handle a moderate diet of magnums as long as you dont go with crazy hot loads. Think of it as Ruger's "K" frame like a Model 19. It uses a similar construction to the GP100, and you can easily swap out broken parts like the hammer axis pin or trigger module(if they ever break). They made the same basic gun under three names: (Police) Service Six, Speed Six and Security Six. I've got the 2 3/4" snubby version of the Police Service Six. https://i.imgur.com/VF8jwy1.jpg View Quote I remember when they called that a 'Roscoe' |

What you paid a couple years ago is completely irrelevant. |

I picked up one awhile back using Cabela’s points. Literally used $139 in points for it.
Mines in pretty decent shape, a round butt but 38spl only. Keep it loaded up in the glovebox. |

I had one that was in very good condition and could kick myself for selling it a few years ago. Very solid revolver

I`ve got one that looks just about like OPs gun. it`s scratched , worn, & dinged, but damn it shoots good. a friend of mine got it from someone who needed money & passed it on to me for the same amount. its ugly but its a keeper.

.357 built like a tank. I have one. Snub nose 155 prefix. I've had it 35 or 40 years and it's worth more to me than anyone else.
It's had the original small stocks on it, a set of ugly rubber Pacs and now has the Ruger Target style grips which I prefer. |

It's a good solid revolver. Will last a lifetime. I have a 4" in SS.

I have one in blue with a 6” barrel made in 1980. I like it a lot! They are really easy to disassemble and clean. Lots of videos on YT.

Perks of stocking up on ammo before it gets scarce I guess. |

Had a Security Six and a Speed Six. My LGS had a gunsmith that worked magic on Ruger actions.
I of my most regretted trades. |
