I want to get a good - durable watch for every day use...
What should I be looking at? Red |

1. Don't get one off Amazon. There are many grey-market sellers and Seiko won't honor the warranty. Got burned on my first Seiko by that. Had to pay $158 for them to swap out a $45 part. Learned to do my own modding as a result of that.
2. Everybody swears by the SKX, but there are better options today. Besides, the SKX is now discontinued. 3. Go to Long Island Watch (https://longislandwatch.com) and look at their Seikos and their Islander watches. The Islander line is their house brand built using Seiko parts and aftermarket parts. 4. Consider asking a custom shop to build a Seiko to your specific tastes out of Seiko parts and aftermarket parts. You can pick out the case, bezel, bezel insert, band, hands, dial, etc. Here are shops that sell Seiko dive watch parts, some of those shops also build their own watches or will custom-build one for you. https://www.namokimods.com https://ajuicet.com https://komoworks.com https://www.dagazwatch.com/apps/webstore/ https://www.theyobokies.com https://usa.crystaltimes.net/ https://www.longislandwatch.com/ https://one-second-closer.com/ https://watch-modz.com/ https://www.dlwwatches.com/ https://lcbistore.com/ https://luciusatelier.com/ https://modmodewatches.com |

Quoted: Budget, size, color, bracelet/strap? View Quote @thafug I have a tag that I gave to my son - quartz that I wore for some 15 years - loved the watch - just wanted a new one... Bought a tag automatic - love the watch - just has given me nothing but problems....want to throw it off of a bridge... Currently wearing a 60 dollar plastic Bertucci Watch - it is fun - cheap - and I have nothing to worry about with it...the lume sucks....want something more quality. Budget 300 or less 40 mm size I like the option of changing out the straps - nato... I like the new dress auto 5 in the gray dial - very plane I like the field watch style - the new auto 5 field looks sweet - just needs a little time for the price to drop I like the Save the Ocean blue models Would like a dive watch for the beach and kayaking trips. @spartacus2002 I do love your mods - do want to get with you and build something for my son's graduation. |

If you can up your budget and want a 40mm dive watch that will put your Tag to shame, the SPB143 is very nice. With drilled lugs, strap changes are a breeze and it looks good on everything.
I have an Aquaracer and prefer the Seiko over it. Attached File Attached File |

Of course I’d try to tell you to get something other than the SKX007…but that’s because I already own one lol.
The SKX007 is the like Glock 19. Not cheap, not expensive, almost everyone has one, you can get them custom built tier1 style if you want or just change out some bracelets/natos and keep it basic. Good entry level watch. |

Isaw them and really liked them, but thought they were pretty high. As far as SKX watches go, I prefer the 173, but that's just me. |

Another SKX007 guy here. Wear it almost everyday and have about 12 NATOs to choose from.

Quoted: Get both? My Turtle is anodized gold. It doesn't get much wear, but it's sharp. Another SKX vote here. It's a classic if you can find one. Another SKX vote here. It's a classic if you can find one. I have both an skx and a mini turtle. I wear the skx most of the time because I wouldn't mind it getting wear marks as much as the little turtle. I treat the turtle as dressier, despite it probable being the other way around |

Quoted: No offence dude, but that watch looks HUGE on your wrist. View Quote Lol, it really did when I just laid it over my wrist for that. It is 42mm and that’s as big as I go. In reality, the lugs don’t hang over or anything. I’ve got weirdly large hands and a 6.75” wrist. It’s tough to wear a watch that’s too small or too big. Attached File |

This isn't worthy of its own thread,, but thanks to @spartacus2002 for recommending Long Island Watch. I had an orange itch I needed to scratch.
Attached File Have only had this for less than a day so I don't have an informed opinion, yet... |

I know nothing about the kinetic Seiko movements. Will hands for Seiko 7s26 and NH35 and NH36 fit them?

Red Took it to a local watch smith. If one is comfortable in opening up watches and has the correct tools, it can be a DIY project. Since it is a dive watch capable of going 600ft, a pressure test is mandatory afterwards. |

I’m going to go in a slightly different direction and say the Seiko quartz divers from the late 70’s to mid-80’s. I haven’t worn a quartz watch on a regular basis since the late 80’s and preferred automatics all these years. I’ve owned quite a few mechanical watches in the past including Rolex, Omega, IWC, Panerai, Patek, JLC, Breitling, Sinn, etc. I love them all and there are more than a few that I wish that I still had. . Maybe it’s just a temporary phase but recently I’ve come full circle and appreciate a vintage analog quartz diver for what it is. The vintage Seiko divers were produced during the heyday of quartz watches and Seiko had many revolutionary innovations at the time.
That being said, my first real watch was a Seiko quartz diver 7548 from 1981. You can still find good examples at reasonable prices. You aren’t rolling the dice as to whether or not it’s running fast/slow, needs an overhaul, etc., but it would be good to change gaskets and have your vintage diver pressure tested. In the attached picture that shows 3 Seiko’s (SBBN007, SBBN025, 7548), all of them are for the Japanese market. They have the English/Kanji day wheel like @1057 watch in the previous post. The one on the far right is the JDM 7548-7000 which is a 1982 and can still be found for cheap. There is something to be said about just opening a drawer after a few months/year and your watch is ready to go. An analog quartz isn’t like a digital and still has quite a bit of character/complexity albeit without a pallet fork, escape wheel, and mainspring: Attached File * If anybody has a clean, original 6306 for sale, please let me know. |

Any seiko with the crown at the 4 position will be the most comfortable. My 6309's get the most wear of any watch because the crown doesn't dig into the back if the hand.

Not trying to derail but you should look at Citizen eco drive dive watches as well. I have an eco drive watch that is close to 15 years old and is still tickin

I think Sumo should be in the mix as well. More refined than the Turtle but it’s a pretty versatile watch.

I'm going to order the SBDC 101 also called SPB143. I think this is their best looking and best sized watch. I enjoy the looks of all their watches, but the skin diver look is off the charts. It's expensive, but look how much a Tudor Black Bay costs or a Rolex and this is arguably a better watch.
