What’s a bottle of brandy that’s representative of the type, easy on the wallet, and not too offensive to the senses?

I’ve never had brandy, but I’d like to try.

I mean representativeof the type, tastes pretty good, and costs under 25 a bottle.

Christian Brothers I'd suppose.

While I'm not a big brandy drinker, I am from the state that consumes the most brandy - Wisconsin.

Korbel is the most popular here.  I've had Hennessy, Courvoisier, etc....   But Korbel has always tasted the best to me.

By no means better than "OK", but if you think it's the shittiest, you need to sample more shitty bourbons.

E&J was pretty good when I was younger, now they have several different bottles.  A friend drinks the VSOP and he he typically doesn’t drink bad or shitty drinks.

I love brandy- especially cognac- almost as much as I love rye. Napoleon would be my recommendation for the best representation and an easy "entry-level" spirit.

American brandies are going to be way sweeter and have much more pronounced vanilla notes, but don't discount them. I like Paul Masson and E&J. Korbel is decent. I despise Christian Brothers and Raynal.

Also note, if you want to step up to about 45 - 50 a bottle and get some good stuff, the Wollersheim Distillery in WI has some great stuff.  It's in the low end fine brandy category.  Check a specialty liquor store for it.

I like Torres.  You may have to special order it.

Some of the Mexican brandies are very good. El Presidente for for one.
IT's a little smoother than CB, for about $15/bottle in my neck of the woods.

Enjoyed a few glasses of Korbel on ice last night. I still prefer bourbon and scotch, but it's not too bad at all.
