I'm wanting something small and easy to conceal in a backpack and this set up really intrigues me. Lots of good reviews on YouTube  and I'm really enjoying the 7.62x39 caliber in ARs right now.

What are your thoughts?

Over priced.

Overpriced, and not enough of a size reduction to be worth all those proprietary parts.

I carry this in my EDC backpack... the LAW folder only requires a simple extension slipped into the end of the bolt carrier, and .300BLK > 7.62x39.

I don't know much about 7.62x39 AR parts, but I have to assume that could be pieced together for much cheaper.

Not for me.

YMMV.

I went with the Rattler and have been very happy with that choice, but the PDX definitely intrigues me and I’m sure it’s nice too.

I concur, was looking at their PDW, but settled with an SB tactical.

Cannot justify the extra cost, really in any way.

I don't know about their upper, but the stock...er...brace seemed overpriced. I went with the Strike Industries PDW brace because it felt like a better design and was a better price, especially on sale.

I've got one on a 300blk 8.5" with the silent capture spring.

Overpriced but looks good and comfortable. It is compact. It is not particularly light.

I did mortar the gun a couple of times (stock fully retracted) with some overly long cast lead bullets to dislodge them. This very slightly bent a part of the release mechanism, but I bent it back. The lockup is solid. Adjustment stops are very positive.

I have the extra sling plate on the bottom. In fact I have a spare for some reason so if someone wants it, PM me and if you cover shipping you can have it. I'm not convinced it's any better than putting it on the already extant qd slots, unless you're trying to maintain ambidextrous capability.

The older style buffer and castle nut was very hard to tighten appropriately without damaging the finish. It does not appear to be a problem on the new design. A little road rash doesn't bother me too much, though.

No complaints overall other than the price, but its what I wanted.

Since efile came back online I considered sbr'ing the gun but the actual stock looks kinda dumb tbh.

I'm only talking about the brace itself if that wasn't obvious enough, the gun listed looks overpriced as fuck.

For $1700 that's getting into Steyr AUG/Tavor territory.

Not bad. 6 out of 8 agree.

I have the SB Tactical version, and love it.

If that helps. Lol.

Got one of those too.

You could build for a lot less....

And in a barrel that short, less is more.  (7.62x35 > 7.62x39)

I like it, but like others can never bring myself to purchase due to the price.

Sb makes the stocks and braces for maxim.

No other input as far as their uppers go though.

Do they or is it the other way around? I've heard both and never bothered to verify either.

I have both, 10.5 SBR with Maxim stock and a 10.5 pistol with LAW folder. LAW is better for backpack IMO.  Smaller when folded and easy to deploy.  Plus the Maxim is not particularly comfortable to shoot. Not terrible, but not great either.

Buddy just picked one up and I got to see it over the 4th weekend. It is certainly compact, but was muzzle heavy with the flash can on the front. I think it makes a cool little gun.
Pricey, but of course you can do something similar yourself cheaper.

X39 would be the last AR I would use for defense.

I have 3, and all have jammed...
With about 10 different types of mags.

HOWEVER,  300blk would be OK.

Last year i assembled a 10.5" 7.62x39 pistol and i love it. A lot cheaper to shoot than my old 300blk.

Spikes crusader lower receiver
New old stock, Bushmaster A2 upper receiver
Shockwave adjustable pistol brace
other nice parts.

under $1000

edit: to ottosear, mine doesnt jam.

I have a side charging 10.5" 7.62x39 on a SBR lower and a strike PDW stock and it's a lot of fun, doesn't jam and is cheap to shoot. I just wanted something smaller than that and not on a SBR lower.

+1 for the law folder and ar9’s in general

Maxim used to run some pretty good discounts during holidays - 20-25% if I remember correctly.  Didn’t see any emails from them this past 4th so that may no longer be an option from them in these crazy times.

8” barrels are ideally the realm of 300 Blackout. When powder loads get into the mid to high 20s it’s best to have longer barrels (5.56, 7.62x39, 6.8SPC, 6.5Grendel).  For barrels around 5” 9mm and 5.7FN are efficient.

I don't reload and already sold most of my 300blk ammo for a premium so it'll definitely be 7.62x39

Mine made my 8.5" blackout no longer cycle with subs unsuppressed. Very handy package though.

It's not that much shorter (1.375") than other braces such as an SBA3 closed and the extended length is a hair shorter.
The buffer is not standard so if you need to change to a different weight it is pricey.

I like it, but a Law Tactical folder will get you a smaller package for less money.

The folder has an 8.5" barrel the others are both 7.5"

Way overpriced and to many special bits.

I built a smaller 300BLK for a lot less with their brace using all standard parts with a Veritas 5" barrel.

ETA: As said above the LAW will get you shorter. I used the Maxim because I needed slim, if I needed short and chubbier I'd do the LAW (which I'm planning to do).

You have a backpack gun right now? If not, stick 2-5 pistols in a backpack and carry that around for a day at the mall or whatever is open right now, and you will probably think better of the notion. It's awkward, annoying, requires constant attention.
