Buddy had an engine replaced under warranty.they gave him some free oil changes for his trouble. First free oil change the tech crashed his truck, on dealership property, into a pole.  Looks totaled to me.

Attachment Attached File

Dealership going to fix it and cover the cost plus diminished value? Will the dealership file an insurance claim against the owner insurance policy? What’s normal in this situation?

Well yeah. Even if they fix it, it will never be the same and show up on carfax as wrecked

This.

Fuck their "fix" and what they consider "diminished value." No way would I ever take possession of that truck again.

It’s on video, making a turn at the end of a row of cars and bam! Right into the pole. Windshield busted from the inside too.

You’re not getting a brand new truck. Stop with that Bs.

OP clearly said the wrecked truck just got a new engine. So… yeah. It was clearly not even remotely new.

Push to get it totaled out with that amount of damage.

Take the insurance value if it, try to get a few days of loss of use in there as well.

Cut a deal with the dealer that you’ll go easy if they sell you a comparable truck cheap.

Indeed.

We fix bumpers and fenders and things helpers fuck up.
Did have a focus totaled into a tree on a test drive. Owner just had the customer pick out a new one off the lot.

I'd push for total it out under their insurance. That truck won't be right again after a hit that hard

Happened to me on the free oil change at 3000 miles.

Lot driver dragged the side of the truck down the corner of the building.

They fixed the truck with their body shop with a lifetime guarantee on the paint and bodywork plus free bedliner oil changes and discounted service visits.

Still own the truck and I can’t tell where the repair was done.

A friend had a dealership drop a roll-up door on his new truck. Fucked it up pretty bad. It took a long and ugly fight to get the dealership to admit responsibility and replace the truck. At first all they wanted to do was fix it.

Well that beats my “bonus hole” drilled into my rear bumper by the sales installing the plates at delivery, and the tech scratching the shit out of rim of my steering wheel.

Demand new truck or like replacement off the lot, or Sue mofo sue!

Thats what their insurance is for.

Hope they pay the cash out for a total, and then work with the dealership for replacement at a better than average deal.

I'd be pissed, but I'm not that over dramatic guy that gets in their face over a old truck with a replacement engine getting wrecked in an accident.

Dealership has insurance, they’ll take care of it through that.

For two years at Toyota the car wash required three employees to operate. One driving the car, one spotting the car, and a manager by the controls. We had gone four months straight with one of the quick lube guys damaging either a car, the car wash, or both at unfortunately common rate. Insurance wasn’t happy and upper management didn’t want to clean up the quick lube mechanics so that was their brilliant plan to please them.

This.  The dealer will try to fuck him. A letter from the attorney may set the dealer on the right course. Truck will never be the same and resale will be greatly reduced.

If they refuse to give him a new truck, constantly complain about handling performance.  Brakes, pulling to one side, poor steering at various speeds, of course not accept delivery for the most minor cosmetic flaw.

It's his truck, not theirs.  They don't get to decide how it's going to be fixed.  He needs to be contacting his insurance agent and filing a claim.

His insurance may not want anything to do with it. He wasn't driving, it wasn't on the road, it wasn't vandalized or stolen. If this circumstance isn't covered by his insurance then it's likely they'll just tell him it's not their problem.

My buddy mentioned above had his insurance company wash their hands of it and refuse to help him negotiate with the dealer's insurance.

Even at 15k miles you’re not getting a brand new truck.

That’s why I said make them get a deal for an equivalent truck.
