Flu season is from Oct 2019 to April 2020 24,000 – 62,000 deaths.
So we won't know until April 2021 |

I remember years and years ago a friend of mine, a young Chinese female chemist, was telling me that the horrible conditions of people living in rural China with their chickens and pigs causes a perfect breeding ground for new strains of flu. That most new flu strains show up there and if there were better living conditions and proper farming techniques that the flu would "go away". The Chinese government knew this but didn't give a shit.
I guess they give a shit now. |

I really think a massive part of it is just changed behavior.
Even without masks, etc, people (in a general sense) are acting a lot more “germophobic” right now than they usually do. Maybe it’s just enough to impact other illnesses? I mean, I’ve been more cautious than normal for the past year or so, and I haven’t been even slightly sick once the whole time. Usually I suck at this and catch at least a few nasty bugs every year. Kinda nice actually, now that I think about it |

The regular flu was cured by COVID.
The normal 200,000 deaths a year we can get from the normal flu were lowered 99% this last year. Amazing huh? |

The numbers I've seen are that reported flu cases are about 2% of last year. Yes, a 98% reduction. It is indeed a miracle! Yeah. Seasonal flu numbers are down, but they are still there. Several theories for that under review which may all combine and contribute to a lower incidence and lower detection rate of seasonal influenza. 1) Measures being taken to reduce covid (personal hygiene, distancing etc) have caused a corresponding reduction in seasonal influenza A and B transmission, and a reduction in Rhinovirus incidence is also being seen. 2) Covid being the focus, there could be fewer seasonal flu tests being done. Covid testing is now the predominant test. 3) Big push on the seasonal influenza vaccine. Dunno what happening on your side of the pond but we had >77% uptake by Christmas which is the highest ever and they are still administering now. 4) Labs are being prioritised for Covid testing, and seasonal flu tests while still taking place for a small number of patients are generally considered a lower priority. 5) predominant flu strain this year is believed to be relatively mild, leading to lower incidence of sever illness. |

Did efforts taken to stop the rampant spread of a highly contagious respiratory infection also help to stop the spread of a less contagious respiratory infection?
If you showed flu-like symptoms this time two years ago, you take some Dayquil and power through your normal routine. If you show flu like symptoms today, you self quarantine for two weeks. Do you think that might help to curtail the flu? https://www.cdc.gov/flu/weekly/ |

They used to test first for flu at some of those drive through places before testing for chinavirus back in April when tests were in short supply. I knew folks who tested positive for flu. It was a really bad flu season before the WuFlu hit, almost everyone I knew had it. They don’t even test for flu in summer months. That doesn’t mean it’s gone. Now they test for chinavirus like mad with the bogus tests and all the scared people running to get tested. I’d venture to say there’s less people sick with covid now than the flu a year ago, they’re just using smoke and mirrors.
