It's called a "Pair of Dikes" around here, even though it's only one tool.
Yes, the pronunciation is the same as slang for lesbian. |

These are "dikes" or diagonal cutters. https://www.meshdirect.co.uk/media/catalog/product/cache/1/image/9df78eab33525d08d6e5fb8d27136e95/d/i/diagonal_cutter_small_1.jpg View Quote And now I know that what I thought were called dikes are not dikes. |

Pliers as show, for use with copper wire I would call lineman’s.
The same set with a hook on the handle, for use with anneled iron tie wire I would call Klein’s |

Wow, those are nice shiny tools. Did you get those from Santa last Christmas? View Quote View All Quotes View All Quotes Quoted:

I've always wondered about that. I wonder if it's a regional thing? If you Google it, dykes are diagonal cutters - just like you said. However, I've always known lineman pliers as dykes. Go figure I have both in the tool pouch: http://i.imgur.com/Y2Cx18S.jpg That was an insurance pic for my homeowner's policy. Anything of value gets a mugshot when purchased. Easier to get replaced when they're stolen. Same reason I built a locking tool crib and put a security camera in the garage. Theft |

I've been installing electrical hardware for 20 years. For whatever reason I rarely see an electrician with linesman pliers. But everybody has a set of dikes on them. Honestly I think, like the name suggest, we just never come across anything big enough for them to be of use. I'd rather have a needle nose with a side cutter than that big bill. That's the other common name for them, but I don't like it since many of my other tools are also Klein brand and I don't like unnecessary confusion. View Quote View All Quotes View All Quotes |

Kleins or linemans pliers. I use them interchangeably depending on who I'm working with.

I've been trying these "heavy duty wire strippers" lately. Size is about right for most of the work I do. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H8CvChR7Xnc View Quote View All Quotes View All Quotes Quoted:
