Some time ago I swapped out the standard handguard on my AR with a freefloat Troy Mlok rail. It’s their 13” black variety. It does the job, but it does seem kind of heavy compared to what I would have expected for an Mlok rail. Also Troy isn’t a brand I typically think of when I think about “quality.” I’m sure it will handle all normal use, but how does this fare with other rails out there?

You've only been here a few months, so I'll explain.
We don't like Troy. Troy hired Dale Monroe. Dale Monroe was a FBI sniper at Ruby Ridge. His partner was Lon Horiuchi. Lon assassinated Vicki Weaver. Dale said he would have taken the shot, but Lon fired first. Once this was exposed, Troy stood behind the hiring of Dale Monroe. Irritating many people here, as it was a huge government screw up in the first place. So expect to see some posts saying Fuck Troy. |

We should get to the bottom of this by the top of page three.
ETA: Nope, dude above me spoiled it. |

Because I am pondering replacing it if doing so is worth the hassle. |

OP, personally I'm impressed with and love pretty much everything Troy makes. And I'm sure many folks don't. But some of GD hates Troy for reasons based upon the history of the company. So please consider maybe reading online reviews by users of their products if you're wondering about their quality and value based solely upon construction, performance, and price.

People here hate Troy because even though they rail against cancel culture, they’re happy to participate when it suits them.
I love my Alpha rail, and I’ve been beating mine up for many years. |

No thanks. There are many other reputable companies to buy from.

Troy is good to go. I have Geissele, but would have no problem with many of their handguards.
Also, their BUIS are awesome. |

I have a Troy quad rail from years ago...long before the drama. Its a decent enough quality component.
Its a rail...as long as its cut to the correct dimensions, it works. We arent talking about a meticulously engineered mechanism...its just a piece of metal that you are bolting to another piece of metal....and it never moves again. Personally, i don't support Troy any more. They showed their ass with that scene a few years back. That said i didnt replace the rail on that rifle. Its functional, and getting rid of it isnt going to help anyone. |

I just got a Midwest Ind. Combat rail. I really like it. Only 9.3 oz installed (11.5" rail). Damn near identical to my SLR rail at a fraction of the price.

Meh fuck Troy.
If you’re looking for a lightweight, quality, and price friendly rail grab something from Midwest Industries. Good peeps. |

Troy Alpha rails were used by the FBI on their 16: heavy barrel 1/9 twist Colts. They are well made. I have an early one that came with a built in flip up front sight that was on a used gun I bought, so I didn't buy it directly.

What happened to that one poster that always jumped in these threads to defend the Ruby Ridge shooter?
