Old Mans Cave is beautiful this time of year with the snow and ice, but it's too fucking cold right now for me.

I love being outdoors, but not when hypothermia and frostbite are real concerns.
A good rule of thumb is if the orange traffic cones have bloomed, it is okay to be outside. |

Looks nice
As for me it means having a full wood rack next to the wood stove. |

Cedar falls would be cool too. Get over there and post pics.
I like being outside when it's this cold. |

Been there, beautiful area.
But I ain’t doing that shit in the winter. I work outside , all day everyday, I can’t imagine going outside when I’m not working . Froze my ass off today. No thanks , I’ll wait till spring to do stuff |

[#12]
Also Ash Cave would be cool to see too. My kids are too little to go down there when it's this cold

Now I remember why I moved from Ohio. I lived at Buckeye Lake and worked in Lancaster.

go for hikes in my woods, cut/split firewood, Hunt rabbits do what ever you might do in 40 degree weather.
Dressing right is key. Easier to work/be outside in 5 deg weather than 90 degree weather. |

I don’t need cold weather as a reason to masturbate like it’s 1999.

Down here in the deep south I laugh and look at my outside thermostat, hovering at 74 degrees.

Hang out in the garage drinking a Deschutes thinking why I got the 4Runner dirty yesterday.

That's awesome OP.
Getting outside and doing something when it's this cold is a good way to beat the the winter blues and pass the time. It's -4 here. |

I've gone camping in the Alaskan bush in -16 degree weather. It was fun and got to practice some serious winter skills. Tip: heat up some rocks and place them under the ATV to thaw it out in the morning. Covering it with an emergency blanket helps reflect the heat as well.

It didn't get above freezing in NC. Didn't leave the house, not sure why people choose to live north of here. Yall yankee's enjoy the cold

Those are amazing pictures, OP. That beautiful scenery is worthy of hanging on a wall.

I dry fire and practice my reloads. In addition to doing some reloading.

One cold, snowy, foggy afternoon many years ago in Montana my wife stood staring through the window. She had a truly disconcerted look on her face. A look that conveyed a sense of regret and apprehension.
I watched her for some time and it was apparent that she was deeply troubled yet she never made a sound. It was more and more apparent she was unsettled, flustered and astounded. This became truly tough for me to watch. As I pondered the ramifications of her being so melancholy and flustered it occurred to me to intervene and remove some of her downheartedness. I took the only action I could. I let her in. |

I busted my hand up real good there at Old Man's Cave about 8 years ago when the wife and I went there around this time of year in similar conditions. She insisted that we hiked that day with our 2 cairn terriers and when we hit the rock step section of the trail my male terrier that I had on a leash decided to try and take off after some small animal. I lost my footing and slammed my hand really hard into the rocks as he started to drag me down the steps which were mostly covered in ice.
Broke a couple fingers and tore out 2 finger nails with how I managed to slam down my hand. At least the ER was friendly as hell when I went in there to get it looked at. |

Don't understand arfcoms aversion to the cold...throw on the appropriate cloths and keep moving. As long as you keep moving it has to be really damn cold to be uncomfortable. Did lots of Ice fishing as a kid in-20 too -30...cranking a hand auger through 4 feet of ice and you were stripped down to your second layer pretty fast..

I was out hiking yesterday and today in 0 F temps
Lots of the people I hike with are fair weather hikers. Many of them drop off when fall comes around. None of them would join me this weekend, even the guy whose house I literally walked behind on my way to the blazed trail I planned to hike. As others have said, its easy to dress appropriately Don't like slogging through snow? Oh well. Go live somewhere there is no snow, then. |

Looks good to me. I'm outside all winter and I like it. Everyone I know that's not outside gets sick every winter. I can't remember the last time I was sick. Once you get used to it, it's no big deal. I'd actually rather hike or work outside when it's close to 0 than when it's above 75. A little bit of fresh air is good for you.
