Do have any clever ideas to repurpose or upcycle tailless shirts?

Got tossed I guess. Don't remember. The shirt thing was silly IMHO.

It got tossed but my solo shirttail is at the top of my “ILM” wall.

They don't cut your tie anymore?

We had a tie cutting ceremony in the Navy.  The general aviation bubbas seem to go with cutting the back out of the shirt.

We did the tie cutting in primary after your first solo.

I wore it. We didn’t do any of that nonsense at the 141 school I went to.

I soloed at 16 in 1976 in a Cessna 150, I guess that had not been invented yet.

Solo party in T-37s and T-38s had no such nonesense, although alcohol was involved

Solo party in F15s was 2 shots of Jeremiah Weed and a shit load of Tequila and your choice of eating half of a live AZ water dog or a boneless chicken. I don't remember the rest, but I was told it was fun.

Don’t know, a shirt with the back out of it would probably turn into a cleaning rag.
Last I saw of the shirt tail it was hanging on the wall of the flight school. That was half a century ago, all long gone.....

The shirt tail thing is still around, although less common.

A friend's daughter, an Army LT, was back home on leave and I gave her her first helicopter ride. I got me a nickel out of that as apparently there is an Army aviation tradition whereby you give your first flight instructor a nickel after your first flight, i.e. the so called "nickel ride".

The 61 school I went to was the same way. No cutting of anything ever happened.

My uncle never cut mine, I would have had to go get a different one before I went to work for him right after the solo.

I read that, back in the day, the instructor in the back seat would tug on the student's shirt tail to get his attention, and that's how the tradition of cutting the shirt tail originated.
