What are your three favorite fudd cartridges for hunting? These are cartridges that were never intended to be military service cartridges, but were 100% developed for the commercial civilian market.

First up with me is the .30 WCF. It is in my opinion a fantastic deer load and very pleasant to shoot. Recoil is manageable and it does the job for a good brush hunt in the timbers of the Eastern US. I have a pile of lever guns in it, but I'm still on the hunt for a good conditioned Savage bolt action. It has served me well on deer and pig hunts in Central and North Florida.

Next up is the .270 Winchester. I have a soft spot for this cartridge. It is chambered in my Winchester Model 70 Shadow and that rifle has done very well in Oklahoma. Flat shooting and good for the flat open spaces of the Cimarron River near Guthrie. Never had an issue where I didn't think the round wouldn't put down a deer at distance. Jack O'Conner always spoke highly of this cartridge.

Last, but not least, is the 9.3x62mm Mauser. I fell in love with this round back in Middle School. At the range, a shooter had a slicked up DWM Mauser chambered in it. Oh man, from there on, I was in love. A nice cartridge for Africa that doesn't break the shooter's shoulder or wallet. Currently, I have nothing chambered in it. But I'm on the hunt for a barrel for my HK SLB 2000. They never sole them stateside in the 9.3, but they did in .30-06 Springfield. Which is what mine is chambered in. But a simple barrel swap is all that is needed and I'd have a nice semi-auto that can put down African game!

Also, the history of the cartridge being used by German Settlers in Southwest Africa is exciting.

I have a soft spot for .303 British but not Fudd enough if we consider origins, so 22 LR gets my vote.

Hmm.

44 Mag. Not a long range contender, but in its fairway it'll make meat with any deer out there

270. Up close to "I dunno..." it'll get it done. Its flatter than most want to give it credit for, and does a great job once it arrives.

12 gauge. Cause birds dont have muchy meat left with you use the above two.

30-06 and .308 were military cartridges, or I’d chose those.

7mm Rem Mag is cool. The original juiced-up ,sub-.30 cal, ultra-flat-shooting cartridge (for its day, anyways) before trendy newer stuff like the 6.5 Creedmoor came around.

Hornady Superformance in 7mm Rem Mag pushes a 139gr SST (ballistic coefficient of .486!) at 3240fps. That's fuckin' spicy.

7mm Remington Magnum - I have my grandfathers Model 700 - 1962 first year of the rifle and cartridge

.348 Winchester - I have my  great great uncles 1947 Winchester Model 71

and 20 gauge - I have a nothing special 870

30-06, 30-06, and 30-06.  Every thing I have shot with that round died from it almost as soon as it was hit where it was hit.
A partial list of things I have killed with that round. 1 brown bear. 1 black bear. 2 moose. 2 elk. 1 bison. 5 antelope. 50+ deer. 200+ pigs, no I didn't eat all of them. I don't know how many coyotes. rabbits. squirrels. feral dogs.  feral cats.
I am sure I left some things out.

.30-30, handy all-round carbine cartridge.
.270 Win, easy to reach out with and still hits with authority.
Besides for those two...I've always liked the idea of the .35 Whelen.

My first hunting firearm was a 12ga. SG when I was 12. I had 2 years of practice prior. But then, at 17, I joined the Army. After that, I only used NATO calibers.

So, 12ga, 5.56x45 and 7.62x51.

Hard to find any real issues with 270 308 or 3006. All fudd cartridges all plenty capable. If it has a face, any of these 3 will kill it.

Tbh these are usually too much rifle. You’re much more likely to find me with a 223 or 6.5 g when trying to put meat on the table.

Here they are.  The 3 on the right. Particularly like the 444.
How could you NOT like something that is big like a suppository and just goes way up in there??

I'm going to keep it all Marlin lever guns to increase the Fuddyness.

218 Bee. Love it, zero recoil and great for a variety of small game.

32-20. Such a fun plinker capable of taking smaller whitetail up close and much smaller game.

.444 Marlin. Just a rad cartridge.

I also have the 25-20. The beauty behind the 218 bee, 25-20, and 32-20 is all I need is one brass type to load all three cartridges. Order 32-20 in bulk, all three calibers are covered!

Fudd is a mindset of a person that wants to restrict our rights, not a caliber, type of gun, or materials used in it's construction

25-06. Have one in a Mauser action. Love it.

.243. Underrated and often overlooked imo.

12ga. Never has there been a more versatile cartridge.

Honorable mention: 300 winmag. Hurts so good.

.35 Remington- damn fine round for close in work, does what most people accuse the 30-30 of doing, but better. Doesn’t have the legs that 30-30 actually has though. Was a deadly round in the hands of law enforcement, Clyde Barrow got shot in the face with one.

.444 Marlin- smashes flat anything you touch with it. Really has gotten new life with the newer bullet choices out there. Rifling twist rate can be a challenge in classic rifles.

7mm-08- does just about everything well, like a .270 but slightly handier.

I'd say it was a flexible moniker and the OP used it correctly.

Perspective is everything.

If you don't want to be seen as militants in this politically charged times, then at least try to act like you're not as separatist. Words mean something, they don't get the humor that some of you think is funny or cute.

If we don't want to push away the fence sitters that happen to also VOTE, we should at least not seem so mocking of anything that isn't tactical.
