Added a bit to the stash
    Also this Bronco Bailey Bridge kit... which actually turned out to have three of the kits in the box  Time to start researching Bailey Bridge usage

I don't really miss building/installing Bailey Bridges. Did enough of that while in the Army. Bailey Bridges are basically giant erector set bridges that are built on site.

You can make a really nice diorama with your Bailey bridge to go with your other models. I just got back into 1:35 military models recently and have been concentrating on armored recovery vehicles and engineer specific vehicles.
The Bailey bridge is such as good design that they stayed unchanged from WWII until the mid 1990's. It wouldn't surprise me if the US military is still using the old bridges that we had when I was in. I know all the ones we had in Germany in the early 90's were from the 40's or 50's. |

That was kind of my thought, with the Comet and one of the Humbers. I wasn't quite planning on having two extra bridges, though

If you could find a period correct 45' flatbed semi trailer and tractor, you could leave one Bailey bridge apart and on the trailer. I wish I had pictures. We hauled the disassembled bridges on 45' trailers pulled by M818 5ton tractors.

With whatever the auction premium ended up being (I think it was 8%), I was into the whole thing for about $380. I went through and tallied up what it would've cost to buy the stuff off the shelf -- a lot of it's discontinued and a good bit of it is limited-production stuff, so it's hard to get a real firm number without doing some estimating -- and I came up with a total of around $1700. A couple of the individual kits sold for $100+ originally. |
