At a certain point, I realized that as a personal vehicle it's financially insane to own a pickup truck. You can get a decent small SUV for 1/4 the cost, and rent a truck when you need it, and be so financially ahead it's not funny. And, that also extends to maintenance, tire costs, mileage/gas, etc.
Trucks are a financial black hole unless you make your living with it. I know that's a slap in the dick to people who love their trucks, but I'm not talking about passion, I merely mean financial good sense. |

I could say the same thing about buying a small SUV instead of a sedan. Sedans are much less expensive, you're not carrying the dead weight of a wannabe SUV around, saving money on maintenance, tire cost, & fuel. There is nothing most small SUVs can do that a sedan can't. At least with a pickup, the suspension components and drivetrain are built to withstand "pickup" use, so under lighter use they hold up really well. For example, at 220,000 miles, my pickup's front end is original other than shocks. This is with a relatively heavy steel bumper with a grille guard on it for 140,000 miles now. Most small SUVs would be needing ball joints, etc by 100k miles. Being a heavier vehicle built on a car chassis is not a benefit. |

Just saw a 2015 Ford F250 Crew cab King Ranch diesel 4x4 with 30K miles go for 45K at a farm auction in South Dakota. That seems absolutely crazy to me for auction prices.

Motivational thread!
My mom has a 2000 Silverado LT 5.3L extended cab, loaded with premium alluminum wheels, tow, LSD, premium factory stereo, fog lights, bucket seats, ect... Runs like new with 60K miles! Interior is mint. Issues are she hit the neighbors mailbox at < 5 mph and put a good sized dent on the side of the passenger bed box and the clear coat is popping off bad. I think that's a common issue I've never experienced before, fuckin GM. The AC doesn't work well anymore either. No other issues...at all. I'm thinking I should find a paintless dent repair place to pull that dent out and then have Maaco or some place do a cheap paint job to sell it. Not sure what it would sell for? I have zero experience with paintless dent repair or shops like Maaco. Any advice or cost estimates? I can do pics when the sun comes up. |

Heck, I might sell my white 1-owner 2006 V8 AWD 4Runner Sport as well. It's 100% mint and 90k miles all options. Hard to estimate a sell price because I'm not seeing anything comparable nationwide on Autotrader and FB Marketplace only shows me 100mi out. I need money for the upcoming GD Thailand/Vietnam/Cambodia field trip.

That was before taxes. ETA - Just for the sake of transparency, that was also after they gave me $750 trade in value on my beat to crap 2005 Jeep Liberty. One of my kid's teachers liked my truck and decided to get one a month or two ago. He said he had a hard time even finding one in stock. Don't know where or what specifically he was looking at though. All in all I like it. It fits comfortably in my garage and has handled the light off roading I do easily. |

Glad you got it, me on the other hand I'm getting ticked off lol. Got off the phone with two credit unions and yeah this markets gonzo.. Both vehicles I've looked at the individual sellers are asking like 4 or 5k above bluebook and NADA value making it tough to get a loan. I really want a GM v8 product to familiarize myself more with the motors etc..as I'm interested in motor swaps/hot rodding etc.. It's a whole new day and age of "I know what I got" lol. |

I'm not an actuary or appraisal specialist, but I find it hard to imagine that the truck will be worth only $10K less than new after 3 years use and 30K on the clock. When resale value is very high, leasing can be a great deal. |

Makes me glad I've kept this truck. I bought it new in 2006 and it only has 49k on it. I only use it occasionally but need it for heavy trailers I have. I've had people try to buy it but if I sold it I'd just have to find something else and in this market I'd be crazy to do so.

She has an offer from the Ford dealership for 85 percent of what she paid with 35 k miles. The damn new trucks are so ridiculous priced, so folks are buying used. This drives up prices. |

I ordered my 2012 Ram 3500 brand new. Base model crew ST with 6.7 diesel, G56 manual, 4x4, 3.73s, rear locker, standard rear wheel, power windows and locks, rubber floor. Was mid 40s.
Lifted on 20s with 35in Toyo MTs. Deleted and 2nd gen turbo swap. Truck has 22,000mi right now as I put it up over winter, never seen snow or salt for that matter. Local dodge dealers have all offered me more than I originally bought it for. |
