Crazytuco, for me it was the other way around, trying to explain to my 22 yo exactly what an Adeptus Astartes was.  I could the eye glaze a few times.

I still haven't been able to successfully bring up 40k to my friends or family.  I have no idea where to begin and despite youtube being where I got most of my original info from, it's not a great place for "what is 40k" videos cuz that would have to be under 5 minutes long and I've yet to see one short enough to be palatable to casuals that was also well done and engaging.

But I get why its hard to make that content.

what do you guys use to store and transport your armies?
the citadel/GWS cases are ridiculously over priced.

All the reveals from the Las Vegas Open

Highlights:

Two new Ad Mech kits

New Ghazzkull model

New elf army for AoS

New Nurgle warband for Beastgrave

Updated Lizardmen for AoS, including a new ziggurat terrain piece

Revision of all the FW indexes into some sort of format more in line with proper codexes

And this guy for Blackstone Fortress giving a shout out to the old Rogue Trader days and making my metal zoat mini from my very early days in this hobby feel inadequate

The killteam as it stands now, the scions are 95% done, the Cadian infantry is about 75% done.

I've only been in this for about a year, but I like how the plasma pistol and melta gun conversion I did looks. It's the scion 2nd from the left.

Nope, just pay once and they’re yours.  It’s where I usually get the games I give away. Hell, I got the complete Dawn of War 1 & 2 game set with expansions for $15 a year or two ago. Something like $100 on Steam.

Been listening to this guy playlist on lore. Never played the tabletop but love an interesting universe and lore. He has something like 50 hours of videos I listen to while doing other shit.

So, ordered some books. Gonna start with Eisenhorn.

The video got sent me down the rabbit hole.

With most every activity cancelled these days for kids' school, kids' sports, volunteering, etc., I've actually had time to do some painting.  I'll have to break this into a couple of posts.

Right before all life was shut down, my group was looking at possibly starting a Necromunda campaign.  I went hard right and made a Venator gang using the Squat stat line.

I'm close to being done with them, with only a little touch up left to do.  I apologize now for the fact that my skills as a photographer and my raw talent as a hand model are equally lacking.

A couple weeks ago I stumbled on some videos of people painting miniatures.

Now I've got the Shadowspear, Dark Imperium and Adeptas Sororitas boxed sets. Thinking about building a Word Bearers army for when the  China Plague is over.

So I was into Warhammer 40k big time back in the early 2000/2010 but eventually quit playing and sold off all my stuff. I had purchased a big Vellejo paint set around 2010 and it has sat in the closet since then. I just found it and amazingly all the paints still have liquid in them. So my question is, do paints have a shelf life? Do they go bad?

I've been checking out some of the new Space Marine and Tau minis and I'm starting to get an itch.

They should still be good, I have paints way over a decade old in my box of model paint.

The stuff shown off over the last week for the upcoming 9th edition has me cautiously optimistic, particularly the Crusade campaign rules. And the AdMech stuff from Engine War has me pulling out the Omnissiah’s faithful and setting aside my World Eaters right now.

Quick question.

I've had a bit of "free time" on my hands lately and have been watching a lot of 40K fan films on YouTube.

I noticed it seems everyone is referring to the Space Marines as "The Astartes" instead of "The Adeptus Astartes".

Was there a change in the general naming convention in some revision by GW?
Since the Rogue Trader days it was always the various Adepts of the Imperium,
Adeptus Astartes
Adeptus Mechanicus
Adeptus Ministorum
etc.

If I'm understanding your question, there was no official change.  They are the Adeptus Astartes.  Sometimes it's shortened in both official and unofficial sources for the sake of shortening the mouthful that the term is.  In the last few years GW has actually tried to slowly move away from space marines toward Adeptus Astartes, but this is more due to the fact that they can't copyright that term.

Thanks.

In several of the "History of tge Space Marnies" type vids, the narrator talks about, "The Astartes are the elite fighting force..."

I like the formal terminology, it sounds cool and has that "old" oubd they're going for with the pseudo Latin.   I'd at least use it initially.
In my day the Space Marines was the nickname (short hand) for Adeptus Astartes.

Downloaded the compilation, it's hanging on my Plex server.

I love the scene when the Marines are walking down the corridor to board the breaching torpedo and they pass the serfs on the right.
The size difference is really illustrated well.

If you haven't, check out Death of Hope. It's a fan made Heresy movie mostly involving the Ultrasmurfs and the Wordbearers.  A few World Eaters show up.  There are 2 "trailers" that are actually sort of prequels, then the main episode which is set onboard a Wordbearers battle barge in the warp.

Very much a return to grimdark!
